The baseball gods can be fickle beasts sometimes. On the same night that he sent teammate Jean Segura to the clubhouse, Milwaukee Brewers star Ryan Braun left Saturday's 5-3 win against the Chicago Cubs with an intercostal strain:

He finished 1-for-4 in the win before making way for Elian Herrera in the ninth inning.

This season was expected to be a very solid step in the right direction for the Chicago Cubs.

However, this season hasn't given much reason for optimism yet on the North Side. There have been several players, including many in the bullpen, that have disappointed so far. That being said, there have been just as many players who have gotten off to good starts. 

The MLB instant replay system is definitely still a work in progress.

Milwaukee Brewers shortstop Jean Segura suffered a freak injury on Saturday night, getting hit in the face by Ryan Braun in the team's dugout.

Giancarlo Stanton is no stranger to hitting long home runs. This solo shot off of Jonathan Pettibone in the 5th inning was no different, landing above the outfield seats in the concession area. 

Stanton wasn't finished, as he added a two-run shot in the 7th inning. What an impressive display of power from the young star. 

We're just two weeks into the 2014 MLB season, and there are already problems with the new instant-replay system. 

In the eighth inning of Saturday afternoon's contest between the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees, shortstop Dean Anna ripped a pitch by Burke Badenhop down the right-field line and appeared on first glance to beat Daniel Nava's throw into second base.

The San Francisco Giants' Madison Bumgarner helped his own cause Friday night with this bomb into the seats versus the Colorado Rockies.

With the bases full, Bumgarner crushed the first pitch he saw from Jorge De La Rosa in the fourth inning.

After reaching the World Series last season, the St. Louis Cardinals have decided to extend the contract of general manager John Mozeliak.

According to Major League Baseball on Twitter, the two-year extension means that Mozeliak is now contracted through the 2018 season:

The Baltimore Orioles center fielder has had it with fans running onto the field of play and disrupting games.

Two fans ran onto the field in the eighth inning of the Orioles' game with the New York Yankees on Tuesday afternoon. The incident was rather innocuous, and the fans were escorted out of the stadium and likely faced some sort of fine for their troubles.
