Fantasy Baseball 2012 Rankings (AL-Only): Top 12 Third Basemen

Third base is generally considered a weak position, but in AL-only formats, it doesn’t look so bad.

While he may not be an ideal option, would only complain about a potential 20-plus HR hitter in Edwin Encarnacion?

What about a potential 30-plus SB option like Chone Figgins? While there may be good options (especially once Miguel Cabrera gains eligibility), that doesn’t mean there aren’t some options that are better than others.

Andy Pettitte Never Used a Substance Banned by Major League Baseball

How many times have we been told that Andy Pettitte used Human Growth Hormone?

How many times have we been told that when Andy Pettitte used Human Growth Hormone it was not on baseball's list of banned substances?  That's what I thought. The media are famous for telling part of the story.

MLB Predictions 2012: Breaking Down NL Playoff Field

Though several National League teams have suffered key free-agent losses, many are still poised to compete for a playoff spot in 2012.

While some clubs have stood pat in hopes of maintaining playoff-caliber teams, others have frantically added to their rosters in order to unseat an incumbent.

There are 16 teams in three divisions vying for five postseason spots.

It's been a good start to spring training for the Boston Red Sox, winning every game they've played thus far with minor speed bumps along the way.

This past offseason brought a lot of changes to Boston, including a new manager, a new general manager, a slew of new coaches, and, most significantly, some new players.

Miami Marlins: Marlins Park Home Run Feature Might Be in Danger of Being No More

With all these soft openings, the Marlins are starting to realize their interesting creation in left-center field might pose a problem for batters.

Already, the batter's eye in straight-away center field has been repainted black from the green color that is evident throughout the walls of the outfield.

Rick Peterson Glad to Be Back in the Game

Last year at this time, Rick Peterson was getting ready to take a trip to Italy, not the place where one of pitching’s most innovative minds usually spend March. It was just the second time in more than 35 years that Peterson had been away from a baseball diamond for any substantial stretch of time.

MLB Baseball: Best Players in AL Central

Nobody takes more time between pitches than Jose Valverde, but whatever he's doing is working.

Valverde converted all 49 save opportunities last season while posting a 2.24 ERA.  Jose's 49 saves led all of baseball and were a career high.

Valverde has been a consistent closer throughout his career, averaging 32 saves per season.

Honorable Mention: Joakim Soria, Kansas City

Roy Oswalt Could Still End Up a Member of the Boston Red Sox

Talk about beating a dead horse, right?

Just when I was fully prepared to turn the page on the whole Roy Oswalt coming to Boston notion, the Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo had to lure me back into the saga.

I'm like Michael Corleone, just when I thought I was out...
