San Francisco Giants Phenom Madison Bumgarner Is No Bum

For those of you in keeper leagues, David Price was probably drafted last year. Tommy Hanson was probably the first minor league pitcher off the board this year. So if these guys are already gone this weekend, don’t worry.

Pick Madison Bumgarner.

Major League Baseball's Biggest Questions For 2009: Part 1

Major League Baseball is always filled with major questions to be answered.

2009 is no exception.

Here are a few of the biggest questions needing to be answered.

5. Will another team like the Tampa Bay Rays come out of nowhere to make the playoffs?

I give a team like the San Fransisco Giants a good shot at challenging for the NL West title.

They have a fantastic pitching staff.

If their offense shows even decent improvement, the Giants will be contenders sooner rather than later.

New York Yankees: 2009's Plan For Success

Alas, baseball is here!

With spring training drawing to a close this week, MLB's regular season is set to kick off. With spring in the air, there's a still a heap of snow in my town. The great American pastime is back!

Texas Rangers Release Frank Catalanotto

A few weeks ago, it sounded as if the Texas Rangers were going to go with outfielder Frank Catalanotto, which meant that former Brave and Dodger Andruw Jones would be looking for a new team.

After that story first broke, Jones has apparently turned the corner and gotten his swing back because the Rangers have decided to keep the Gold Glove Award winning center fielder. This means that Catalanotto's days with the Rangers are officially over, according to a blog written by MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan.

Seattle Mariners 2009 Season Preview

*From Protect the Plate

After winning 88 games in 2007, the Mariners were expected to contend for the American League West title last season. Instead, they fell apart, posting the worst record in the AL, and losing 100 games for the first time since 1983.

With a whole new coaching staff headed by first-time manager Don Wakamatsu, the Mariners hope to bounce back in a big way in 2009.

The 10 Best Hitting Performances: 40 and Older

In an era where the long ball is valued much more than a batting average, on-base percentage, or clutch performance, hitters that fail to come up with a sizable amount of home runs after they play into their mid-30's are frequently shoved out of the world.

A hitter whose so sole contribution is power (i.e. Ryan Howard, Mike Jacobs, Reggie Jackson) typically has a much shorter career than those hitters whom depend on speed, and batting average. The age of 40 is a death sentence for a hitter. Point in case; Barry Bonds.

A Tribute to a Man Who Played the Game the Right Way: Ken Griffey Jr.

Throughout this most recent decade the game of baseball has been all but ruined.

Since the Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa home run chase, the game of baseball has took a left turn and hasn't slowed down since.

In fact, many have completely lost their love for the game because of one word.

This one word has changed not only baseball, but the entire sports world.

Steroids.

The Final Four...for the Cubs Bullpen

On Tuesday, Chicago Cubs' Manager Lou Piniella stated what most fans already knew: there were a couple veteran pitcher in jeopardy of losing their bullpen jobs to talented youngsters.

Chad Gaudin and Luis Vizcaino, both acquired in trades in the last 12 months, are on the bubble right now.

Gaudin, who came with Rich Harden in a trade deadline deal with Oakland last year, has struggled all spring. Vizcaino, who was acquired in what was widely regarded as a salary dump of starter Jason Marquis, has been less than impressive as well.

If Your Team Don't Make The Playoffs...

Opening Day is fast approaching and this is the time all the MLB writers throw out their previews and predictions. So why not me?

In the following article, use the If...Then conditional statement and apply it to all teams if they fail to make it to the postseason.

In other words: "If the [insert team here] don't make the playoffs..."

Former Red Browning Arrested

Tom Browning, one of only 17 major-league pitchers to throw an official perfect game, was arrested on Friday and was being held on $99,008.36 bail, a figure equal to the amount he owes. He was still in jail as of Monday night, according to media reports.

In 12 years in the majors, Browning went 123-90 with a 3.94 ERA. He threw his perfect game on Sept. 16, 1988, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 1-0 in Cincinnati.
