Bring on the Fall Classic

After what has seemed like an eternity since the end of the ALCS, the World Series is finally ready to get underway later tonight.

On paper, I can't say that a Yankees-Phillies matchup is one that will go down in history as one of the greatest playoff rivalries, but I'm sure some people probably thought the very same thing about the 2001 World Series between the Diamondbacks and the Yankees.

Interview: NY Times' Tyler Kepner Discusses the Series

Here in Philadelphia, fans are gearing up for the highly anticipated 2009 World Series between the Phillies and Yankees. In the Bronx, the media circus has begun. Over 300 writers attended today’s media day at Yankee Stadium. Among them was the New York Times ’ Yankees writer Tyler Kepner.

Tyler was kind enough to speak with me this morning, about the Yanks, the Phils and how they match-up, in what promises to be an exciting World Series.

Nick Swisher is Killing the Yankees

Nick Swisher is a one man wrecking crew this postseason, but the problem is he is wrecking his own team the New York Yankees.

For the Yankees to win the World Series against the Phillies, Swisher is going to have to step it up or move aside.

Swisher has four hits in 32 at bats with 11 strikeouts and is currently batting  only .125 this postseason headed into the World Series against the defending World Champs.

Nick has to understand he has to produce in the postseason to really be a Yankee or sit out for the team.

When in doubt, hire yourself as President

It took almost an entire year of recruiting, but finally there is a President and CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays.

With the official announcement that Paul Beeston (pictured above) will in fact be the new President and CEO of the team, the good news is that Rogers won’t have to change the name plate on the President’s desk and send out that pesky “so and so is no longer with the company” email.

This Red Sox Fan's Rooting for the Phillies Again, but This Time, I Mean It!

Last year, the season ended tragically, but I found solace in my brief tenure as a Phillies fan

This year, I'm taking it to a new level.

The Phillies helped me through a difficult recovery period in 2008; that world-shattering shock that followed Game Seven of the ALCS left me grieving, but the Philadelphia Phillies took this scarred and bitter fan and gave her a new reason to cheer. For that I owe them thanks.

Yankees Glossary of Terms: World Series Edition

The New York Yankees are back in the World Series for the first time in six years. For those not familiar with the American League champions, River & Sunset has provided a brief rundown of each player.

Yankees Earn Their Way Back to Baseball's Greatest Stage

I liken my feeling prior to first pitch of Game Six last night to how Lindsay Lohan must feel on the eve of a mandatory probation hearing.

Unjustly annoyed. Kind of dazed. Quite nervous. Thinking about what can be ingested to take the edge off things.

I was annoyed because I knew the series should already be over. I was dazed because all those maddening off days had turned my apartment into the Overlook Hotel. (All off days and no play make Dan a dull boy.) I was nervous because of 2004. I was thinking about drinking gluttonous amounts of vodka.
