Changes and Issues Aplenty For Diamondbacks

With the Phoenix Suns now eliminated from the NBA Playoffs, the Phoenix Coyotes now focusing on a bleak future in Arizona, and a general declining interest for the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona State football in their upcoming seasons, the attention for many Phoenix and Arizona sports fans has shifted to the struggling Arizona Diamondbacks.

And boy, it isn't pretty.

Hall & Oates Headline Independence Day Series

Fresh on the heels of the announcement that The Wiggles are coming to Chase Field, the Arizona Diamondbacks announced their second post-game concert.

I have to admit I am a lot more excited about this one than I was the first.

The Arizona Diamondbacks announced there would be a concert featuring Hall & Oates after the Los Angeles Dodgers/Arizona Diamondbacks game to kick off the Fourth of July Weekend.

Ubaldo the Great: Rockies' Jimenez Improves To 9-1

Wednesday night at Coors Field, Ubaldo Jimenez wrote the latest chapter of a story that looks as if it is going to have a very happy ending.

Don't Get Too Excited About D'backs' Bullpen Yet

The past two games for the Arizona bullpen? 6 1/3 innings of scoreless baseball. Yes, I know. It is an amazing feat. One might actually think that a corner has been turned, that things will improve.

This is, indeed, possible, but before there are parties and wagers about how the season is turning around (I doubt people are doing that yet, but still relax), take a deep breath and look at the reality. The bullpen just did that against the Astros, a pathetic excuse for a major league team at the moment.

Bud Selig's Hands Tied in MLB's Fight Against Arizona Immigration Law

Anytime sports and politics mix, things get a little sticky. We want sports to be pure and offer a sanctimonious escape in the form of entertainment. We also want sports to use its national platform to encourage positive change in our country and countries beyond our borders. Both are achievable, presumably, but we can rarely have it both ways.

Asking Bud Selig, the commissioner of Major League Baseball, to single-handedly change the new immigration law in Arizona is asking too much.

Keep Politics Out of Baseball: Diamondbacks Protesters Should Leave Fans Alone

The Arizona Diamondbacks faced the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field with demonstrators in favor of and against the new immigration laws signed by Jan Brewer (the governor Of Arizona).

Altitude Sickness, Immigration Madness, and a Socrates Sighting

It used to be that a trip to Denver and Coors Field meant baseballs would leave the stadium like a squadron of F-16 fighter jets. With the introduction of baseballs being stored in a humidor the runs per game dropped dramatically putting the stadium on par with many others in Major League Baseball by negating the effects of dry air at altitude.

Arizona's New Unconstitutional Law and The Sports World

This past Friday, Arizona's governor signed a law that would require all immigrants to carry documents that would prove their legal status in the United States of America. Police in Arizona may also stop anyone that reasonably and suspiciously looks illegal.

The law has already started to go under fire and criticized by law officials and common people of the United States. Many will agree that this sets the United States government a few steps behind in their work for immigration stability.

Rockies Lose Opener To Haren, Diamondbacks; Injury Bug Bites Rockies

When you face Dan Haren, you have to be perfect.

So essentially the Rockies were done after Jason Hammel gave up three runs in the top of the first inning. The Diamondbacks went on to win 5-3.

Take Me Out to the Ball Game: A Father-Son Arizona Diamondbacks Outing

To celebrate my father’s 70th birthday, I decided to take him to an Arizona Diamondbacks game.

Regular readers of this blog may wonder whether this was really a birthday gift, or whether I just forget to go shopping and decided to pick up a few extra tickets to the game while I was there.

As strange as it sounds, I actually planned this gift.

When I was growing up, my father, like many others throughout this country, gave up his time to coach Little League baseball. It was not just to spend more time with his son.
