Philadelphia Phillies Swap Aces: What's the Deal?

This morning I got up and saw that Roy Halladay was in Philadelphia with his agent.  The second I saw that I got the same exact feeling I got on July 29 when rumors started swirling about a deal for Cliff Lee.

Well today it looks like the Cliff Lee era in Philadelphia is all but over.  Rumors all across the Internet, from ESPN to Sports Illustrated to Twitter and to blogs like my own have the Phillies involved in a three-team trade.  This deal would send Roy Halladay to the Phillies and Cliff Lee to the Mariners while both teams would send prospects to the Blue Jays.

Roy Halladay to Philadelphia, Cliff Lee to Seattle

Sports Illustrated is reporting that the Philadelphia Phillies have acquired Roy Halladay from the Toronto Blue Jays. The Phillies are also said to have dealt Cliff Lee to the Seattle Mariners, who are included as a third team.

The rest of the players in this blockbuster deal are yet to be confirmed.

Halladay, 32, is expected to sign a contract extension with the Phillies to complete the deal.

Washington Nationals' Jesus Flores Shut Down Until February

According to MLB.com's Bill Ladson , Washington Nationals catcher Jesus Flores has been "shut down" from baseball related drills until February, presumably when pitchers and catchers report for spring training.
Flores is recovering from labrum and elbow surgeries following a 2009 season that saw him get just 106 plate appearances before being shut down with what was originall

San Francisco Giants: Five Under-the-Radar Players To Watch For in 2010

The San Francisco Giants were one of the big surprises that nobody talked about last season. After finishing the 2008 season with an abysmal 72-90 record, the Giants bounced back with a 16 game turn around and just missed out on the post-season finishing 88-74.

Philadelphia Phillies to Acquire Roy Halladay in Three-Team Blockbuster Deal

The Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to trade for coveted pitcher Roy Halladay in a three-team blockbuster that would send Halladay to the Phillies and Cliff Lee to the Mariners.

Sources say Halladay would agree to a long-term contract extension that would complete the deal. Halladay would go to the National league while Lee would return to the American league where he won the 2008 Cy Young award.

John Lackey Takes Physical, Will Reportedly Sign with Boston Red Sox

Early this Monday morning, a report circled that the best free-agent starter available on the market, John Lackey , was in Boston taking a physical, a precursor to a signing with the Red Sox.

MLB Hot Stove: Lackey to Red Sox, Halladay to Phillies, Lee to M's

The winter meetings are underway, and multiple important details have already dripped out.  Jason Bay is unlikely to re-sign with Boston.  Because of this setback, the Sox have taken the opportunity and extra money from not signing Bay, and have invested it in John Lackey, a 31-year-old ace.  The deal is about the same as Burnett's.  Five years for about 82.5 million dollars.

John Lackey to Sign with the Boston Red Sox

The never-ending game of one-upmanship continues.

The Boston Red Sox are reportedly on the verge of inking the top pitcher on the market, John Lackey, to a five-year, $85 million contract.

Reports out of Boston claim that Lackey took a physical with the Sox on Monday, an indication that an official deal is close.

BREAKING: Phillies Acquire Roy Halladay in Three-Team Trade

It took five months longer than we expected, but Roy Halladay is a Philadelphia Phillie.

According to Jon Heyman, the Phillies have agreed to a three-team trade with the Toronto Blue Jays and Seattle Mariners that will send Halladay to Philadelphia, Cliff Lee to Seattle, and a package of prospects from the Phillies and M's to the Blue Jays.

Halladay, 32, will sign a contract extension with Philadelphia to complete the blockbuster.

Lackey Takes Red Sox Deal—And a Midnight Train Out of Anaheim

John Lackey pitched the first game of a double-header between his Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park back in 2007.

The Angels' ace had looked good, dominant even, all season long. But this just wasn't his day.

After surrendering five runs in the first inning, Lackey walked off the back of the mound and muttered to himself, glaring up at the outfield bleachers and shaking his head as he did: “F*** this place.”

That was then. This is now: John Lackey is the newest addition to the Red Sox' parade of aces.
