Detroit Tigers by the Numbers: Ron LeFlore

Since the 1931 season, the Detroit Tigers uniforms have featured numbers assigned to each player.  Our “By The Numbers” series takes a look at the best, or sometimes just the most interesting, player to wear each number.  We have reached number 8 in our series, if you would like to catch up on the first seven, click here to find the earlier installments.

Yankees-Angels: Sabathia, Rodriguez Give New York 3-1 Series Lead

So much for CC Sabathia not being able to pitch in the postseason, huh?

On just three days rest, New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia dominated the feeble Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim lineup and Alex Rodriguez hit yet another home run, as the Yankees crushed the Angels last night 10-1 to take a 3-1 lead in their best-of-seven ALCS.

However, before I get to my observations of last night’s action, I have to talk about something else first. I hate to talk about something outside the game itself, but in this case–it’s necessary.

Sorry, NY Mets Fans, I Will Be Rooting for the Phillies If They Play the Yankees

I never thought that I would say this, but I will be rooting for the Phillies, should they go up against the Yankees in the World Series next week.

Please don't get me wrong, I am not happy about the potential for Philadelphia to earn their second straight World Series Championship.

I would have preferred either Colorado or Los Angeles to have the opportunity to play in the World Series, but it is what it is, the Phillies are one win away from the NL Pennant.

Playoff Umpires Awful Yet Again—Something Needs To Change Soon

If playoff baseball has the best umpires in the business, there is something very wrong with the business.
In a postseason that has already seen a number of gaffs, the six-man crew covering Game Four of the Yankees-Angels ALCS took incompetency to a whole new level.
The umpiring team made three awful blunders, leaving fans wondering just how many men in black you have to have on the field to get a

Yankees-Angels: A-Rod, Sabathia, Crush LA—Move One Win From World Series

Alex Rodriguez connected on his fifth home run of the postseason and CC Sabathia dominated the Los Angeles Angels on short rest as the Yankees won 10-1 to move one win away from a trip to the World Series.

A-Rod tied a postseason record with his eighth consecutive game with at least one RBI, and Sabathia handcuffed the Angels through eight innings of one-run ball to take a 3-1 series lead.

JC's Dodger Line Drives | Oct. 20: Dodgers Extend G.M. Colletti's Deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced today they will extend general manager Ned Colletti's contract. After speaking with the team's P.R. department, I was informed that while they will not release the exact number of years in the agreement, the word is it will be a long-term deal.

Manny Ramirez's Shower in Ninth Inning Merits Closing the Gates of Mannywood

If you want to know what Jimmy Rollins's walk-off double looked like from the Dodgers’ bench, don’t ask Manny Ramirez for his vantage point.

"Actually, I was in the shower," Ramirez said. “I only saw the highlight.”

This was the gross response of Ramirez when asked what his thoughts were about Jimmy Rollins' walk-off double.

Highlight?

You do realize that hit sealed your team's defeat and put them one game away from elimination, right?

Phillies: Eerily Familiar, Predictably Resilient, Phils On The Brink Yet Again

Can someone take their finger off the replay button? Last year is over.

Sure, it was a great run. We get it. It was a run even Dr. Seuss couldn't have conjured up in his wildest dreams.

The golden left arm of Cole Hamels, backed by the indelible offensive onslaught pushed the Phillies to a level unseen in Philadelphia in over a quarter century.

The clincher was magical. The parade was dizzying. The feeling was indescribable.

Rollins wins it, Charlie calls it!

PHILADELPHIA- The Phillies proved again last night that you can never give up on this team, coming from behind to beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-4 at a frigid Citizens Bank Park.

The mood on Broad and Pattison, last night, was solemn and quiet as the fans predicted a plane ride back to Los Angeles would be inevitable, as the Dodgers handed the ball to closer Jonathan Broxton, who’s 98-101 MPH fastball has devastated opposing hitters this season.

Is Chewing Tobacco a Problem in Major League Baseball?

We all know the stories.

Back in the day, the chaw was the rage.

We've all seen that scene in "The Sandlot" when all the kids try chewing tobacco because all their favorite baseball players do it.

This has become a common motif in anti-tobacco campaigns: trying to stop visible figures from doing it because young, impressionable fans who idolize players might just try it and get addicted.
