Rangers Listening to Offers for Michael Young, Is a Return to Toronto Possible?

The Texas Rangers have always hoped that when they acquired Cliff Lee last year, that it wouldn't just be for the remainder of the season.  They were hoping that they would be able to sign him this offseason despite him becoming a free agent.

New York Mets Sign Right-Handed Reliever D.J. Carrasco

The New York Mets and free-agent reliever D.J. Carrasco have agreed to a two-year deal worth $2.5 million according to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com and Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com.

The deal is pending a physical, but it will more than likely transpire.

Fantasy Baseball '11 Projection: Will Andre Ethier Be An Elite Outfielder In '11

After exploding in 2009 with 31 HR and 106 RBI, fantasy owners were clamoring about what Andre Ethier could be in 2010.  Could he emerge as one of the elite outfielders in the game?  Forget about just outfielders, could he emerge as one of the elite hitters in the game?  The fact is that the question owners should have been asking was if he could even repeat that success.  The answer would have been no (though there’s an asterisk), as Ethier posted the following line:

Fantasy Baseball Fallout: Winter Meetings Day 1: Jayson Werth, JJ Putz and More

While the Adrian Gonzalez trade has gotten all of the publicity (and rightfully so, as you can read my thoughts on the deal by clicking here), there was plenty of other moves on the first day of the Winter Meetings worth noting.  Let’s take a look at the fantasy fallout:

Whining Ninny's Aside, Washington Nationals on Verge of Being Not So Bad Anymore

The baseball world is still whining and complaining about Jayson Werth's seven-year, $126 million contract with the Washington Nationals.

Let 'em whine, I say.

For some reason, the Nationals just can't placate anyone, so why try? For years, the team has been slapped about because they refused to spend millions of dollars on players who wouldn't help them become a contender.

MLB Free Agent Rumors: How Much Is Too Much for Paul Konerko?

Signing Adam Dunn was step one for the White Sox this off-season. However that signing doesn't look nearly as good if the Sox don't find a way to bring Paul Konerko back to the South Side.

The question is: how much is Paul Konerko worth? At what point do his salary demands become unrealistic for a first baseman who will be 35 by the time he reports to spring training next season?

Detroit Tigers May Look To Trade Market To Fill Void in Right Field

With the ungodly signing of Jayson Werth to a seven-year, $126 million contract the cost of outfield help has gone through the roof. The Tigers are most likely working pretty hard to get a deal in place with Magglio Ordonez to be the right fielder in 2011. However, because of the lack of outfield depth on the free-agent market, Ordonez might be able to land a ridiculous deal. If that happens the Tigers may be forced to look to the trade market.

Pittsburgh Pirates Close To Signing Lefty Scott Olsen

Although not there yet, I will be in Orlando tomorrow to bring you all of the latest news at Major League Baseball's annual Winter Meetings.

As usual on the first day, there is much dialogue between clubs.  Most of it goes nowhere, but rumors will fly and some groundwork to future deals may be laid.

Shaun Marcum Heads to Milwaukee as Toronto Blue Jays Youth Movement Continues

Over the weekend the Blue Jays made the latest in a series of deals aimed at building a championship caliber club a few years down the road. This one saw the Jays second best starting pitcher from 2010, Shaun Marcum, head to Milwaukee in return for top prospect Brett Lawrie.

Major League Lottery: How MLB Teams Make Big Gambles in the Dominican

Picture a young kid, no older than 12, hitting hundreds of baseballs into a ragged net, or throwing them at a makeshift backstop. They grow up with huge dreams, living in an impoverished nation of less than 10 million people.

Aside from the location, their dream sounds none to different than the one we all had, right? Bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two out. The pennant on the line. With one swing, you win a ring, the love of a city, and secure financial stability for your family.
