Chicago Cubs-New York Mets Preview: April 19-22

So much for home cooking.

The Cubs (5-7) started off their first homestand of the 2010 season in strong fashion, just missing out on a sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers.

Then the one-win Houston Astros came to town and did just enough to take two of three from a punchless Cubs squad.

While it’s not time to panic, I wouldn’t smack you over the top of the head for being worried.

Javier Vazquez Fixes Mechanical Issue after Two Rough Starts

The Yankees have been doing so well lately, but no matter how good they play there is still going to be a small faction of fans who are just never going to be happy. It’s sad in a way, especially when these fans have latched on to Javier Vazquez and are looking for blood.

David Wright's Career Is Over Unless He Becomes Fearless at the Plate

The event occurred after my college career was over and I was several seasons into one of the various semi-pro leagues I played in during the summer. Make no mistake about the quality of "summer ball," as these were some of the most competitive seasons we ever played. A regular season was usually a 40-game schedule played over 60 days, then playoffs.

Monday Morning Manager: My Weekly Take on the Detroit Tigers

Last Week: 2-4
This Week: at LAA (4/19-22); at Tex (4/23-25)

So what happened?

The Tigers’ first butt-kicking of the season came on Friday night, when the Seattle Mariners had their way with Jeremy Bonderman. The pitching was uneven all week, the defense shaky at times, and it all added up to a 2-4 week that the Tigers deserved; in fact, they were perilously close to going 1-5, if it wasn't for a rousing 6-5 win on Tuesday (coming back from a 5-0 deficit).

Cleveland Indians News And Notes

Considering the Cleveland Indians got off to a 4-8 start last year, a 6-6 start this year seems pretty good. Then again, anytime a team from the miserable sports city in America is .500 or better, I guess the people from Cleveland are happy.

Let’s see what else is going on with the Indians.

Old Yankee Stadium Demolition: New Pictures of the Progress in New York

It has been a while since I last put pictures up of the old Yankee Stadium being torn down, so I thought now was as good a time as any. Especially since they have done so much over the past couple of weeks.

I must give a tip of my hat to Sliding Into Home , as Greg has kept his readers much more up to date with these pics and I simply stole these from him.

2010 New York Yankees More Balanced

It’s good to be a Yankee fan right now.  The Yankees have won all four series they’ve played, coming off a convincing sweep of a talented young Rangers team.  Their other series wins were against arguably the two other best teams in baseball in the Red Sox and Rays, and against a perennial contender in the Angels.

The question now is: How long can they keep this up?  Clearly, there will be low points in the year and the road trip they are about to embark on will provide some possible pitfalls right away.

The Baseball Cluster: Ubaldo Jimenez's No-Hitter and 20 Innings of Pain

THE MEAT OF THE ORDER

Every week there are three things I deem to be really important. It's kind of like the "meat" of my lineup.

1. Ubaldo Jimenez throws first no-hitter in Colorado Rockies’ history.

I’m pretty sure about this, but I believe he’s the first person not only named Ubaldo to throw a no-hitter, but he’s the first person with a U to begin his first name to throw a no-hitter.

That’s some Elias research right there.

New York Yankees To be Honored at White House

According to George King of the NY Post, even though it is not yet official, the Yankees are expected to visit the White House on th
