Boston Red Sox

Boston Red Sox

Why The Yankees Can't Beat The Red Sox

Two months into the MLB season, few people would have guessed the Red Sox would be looking to get their third sweep of the Yankees. With Boston up 7-0, it is time to look at how they're getting it done.

So, what exactly makes the Red Sox so unstoppable when playing New York?

First, when comparing the team's batting lineups and offensive attacks, no major difference can be drawn.

Papi Christ: How David Ortiz could be the Savior...for New York

Last night, David Ortiz came to the plate at Fenway Park and did something he had only done twice before in this season: He hit a home run.

All of Boston roared and showed their unwavering support for their latest baseball hero.  Like, Ortiz himself, they don't want to believe what so many journalists and analysts have been bedrudgingly reporting since the third week of the season: Big Papi is washed up.

The Fenway Faithful stood and cheered, but they aren't the only ones who can get excited by Ortiz's show of power. I am, of course, referring to Yankee Fans.

Ortiz Slump Over? Stop the Crazy Talk

All of Boston is talking about the Sox taking game one of the three game series between Boston and the New York Yankees.

Boston, led by the brilliance of Josh Beckett, won 7-0.

In the midst of the all the excitement was an absolute bomb off the bat of David Ortiz. He took A.J. Burnett deep to Portland, Maine.

Fantasy Baseball: Evaluating Daisuke Matsuzaka

Of all the players in 2009 that have fallen off the map, none has been under greater scrutiny than Daisuke Matsuzaka of the Boston Red Sox.
While others like Jimmy Rollins and David Ortiz have had their numbers drastically slashed from lofty expectations, Matsuzaka’s decline is being blamed on factors external to the Red Sox.
Namely, the World Baseball Classic.

Orlando Cabrera, Jack Wilson Rumored to the Red Sox

The Red Sox rumors just keep coming.

Now, Oakland Athletics shortstop Orlando Cabrera is now rumored for the Red Sox.

Cabrera was traded from the Montreal Expos to the Boston Red Sox in the blockbuster trade that sent beloved Red Sox shortstop Nomar Garciaparra to the Chicago Cubs and propelled the Red Sox to the 2004 World Series Championship.

The Red Sox didn't pickup Cabrera's contract for the 2005 season, and was signed by the Los Angeles Angels, and after the 2007 season was traded Chicago White Sox for 2008.

John Smoltz Nearing Return: Should Red Sox Pitchers Worry?

Last night, John Smoltz made more progress to advance himself on the long road of recovery from last year's season-ending shoulder surgery.

With Pawtucket hosting the visiting Durham Bulls, Smoltzy fired six innings for the PawSox, limiting Durham to one run and one hit with two walks and three strikeouts. 51 of his 74 pitches found the strike zone, as Smoltz retired the last ten batters he faced.

After the game Smoltz said his shoulder felt fine. During the game, he topped out at 91 MPH on the radar gun.

Vizquel, Spilborghs Seem To Be Interested in Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox seem to be the team worth watching this trade season, with their persistent chase after a shortstop, and an outfielder.

Jeff Francouer, Josh Willingham, Adam Dunn, JJ Hardy, Miguel Tejada, Matt LaPorta and Hanley Ramirez have all been tossed around, not to mention some catchers like Victor Martinez and Jarrod Saltalamacchia. You can now add the Texas Rangers' Omar Vizquel and the Colorado Rockies' Ryan Spilborghs to that list.

Ted Williams: More than the Greatest Hitter of All Time

All Ted Williams ever wanted growing up was to be known as the greatest hitter of all-time.

In a career that spanned four decades, Williams left little room for argument in regards to that discussion.

The Splendid Splinter had a career batting average of .344, ranking him tied for seventh all-time in the major leagues.

Williams also hit 521 career home runs, won the American League Triple Crown twice, and was the last player in baseball to hit .400 when he accomplished the feat in 1941.

Red Sox Seek Stand-In for Disappointing David Ortiz

The trade winds are blowing at full force, and it's only June 5.

In the eye of the storm, you'll find the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox apparently have been shopping around players such as Brad Penny, Daniel Bard, Julio Lugo, and pitching prospect Michael Bowden—all in hopes of acquiring a strong bat to make up for designated hitter David Ortiz's lack of production.

Are the Braves and Red Sox Interested in a Penny-Francoeur Trade?

According to ESPN.com's Buster Olney, the Atlanta Braves and the Boston Red Sox have been talking about a Brad Penny-for-Jeff Francoeur deal. The Red Sox have been scouting Francoeur for awhile, and the Braves are looking for a new starter after the release of 305-game winner Tom Glavine.

Apparently, the Red Sox had the deal in place, but the Braves then backed out of the deal, seemingly no longer desiring Penny.
