We knew the Cliff Lee sweepstakes were going to heat up as soon as the winter meetings got underway, mostly because Lee made it clear he wasn't going to listen to offers until the aforementioned meetings began.

Well, according to the New York Post, the Texas Rangers could be tipping their hand a little bit early.

The Boston Red Sox are "serious" about Carl Crawford and are meeting both the outfielder and his representatives in Houston, according to Yahoo's Tim Brown.

While most early speculation has centered around Boston inking free-agent outfielder Jayson Werth, Boston's attention seems to be focused on the younger, more athletic speedster from the division rival Tampa Bay Rays.

Update: According to Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, this NY Post report is not true, quoting a source that said, “Nothing’s happening there yet,” adding, “It sounds like a lot of BS being put out by the agent.”

Andy Pettitte gave the Yankee universe a scare early this winter when he told reporters that he was leaning toward retirement.

Another scare came after the Rangers had supposedly reached out toward the native Texan.

Now we get our first piece of good news.

It is being reported by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal that Derek Jeter and his agent Casey Close will meet with the New York Yankee officials in Tampa, Florida. These negotiations have gone on long enough and things have certainly gotten ugly.

Maybe a deal can finally get done.

After losing Juan Uribe to the Los Angles Dodgers, the San Francisco Giants have found their replacement in veteran Miguel Tejada.

It has been reported that Tejada has signed with the Giants for a one-year deal worth $6.5 million. Tejada's deal also includes $500,000 in performance-based bonuses.

Yahoo Sports is reporting that the Kansas City Royals may be putting their ace pitcher on the market this off-season in hopes of getting a large return.

Among the teams that have been interested in Zach Greinke's services are the New York Yankees. 

First Jon Garland and now Miguel Tejada.

I asked another Padre friend of mine, via Twitter, if the San Diego Padres were planning on bringing anyone back for the 2011 season.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Garland just before Thanksgiving and now another NL West team has signed another former Padre.

The Colorado Rockies didn’t want to have another young star slip through their fingers and end up being traded away like Matt Holliday. That is why the Rockies gave All-Star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki a seven-year, $134 million contract extension.
