Finally, the mystery is over. 

Eight days ago it was reported that the Phillies had come to terms with a bullpen pitcher, believed to be either Danys Baez or Mike MacDougal. 

Now we have learned that the Phillies have agreed to a two-year deal with Baez, according to MLB.com's Todd Zolecki and SI.com's Jon Heyman. 

It's no shock, seeing that the Phillies have long held interest in Baez, back to his days with Tampa Bay. 

For a bullpen that was in flux for much of last year, it will give the Phillies some stability at the back end of the game.

After long-exploring multiple trade and free agent options, the Chicago Cubs finally decided to sign 32-year old Marlon Byrd. Bruce Levine of ESPN reports that it will be a three-year contract worth $15 million.

Byrd didn't hit his stride offensively until reaching Texas, having struggled previously in Washington and Philadelphia. Things changed when he became a Texas Ranger though.

Is He on the Block—Or Not?

There is a rumor going around that Carlos Zambrano, Chicago Cubs ace, is headed out of the Windy City via a trade.

May I add that my ambiguously worded article regarding the Mets' offseason intentions may have added some legs to that rumor.

The facts are—there are no facts. Which is why if you re-read my piece you will see that the trade of Zambrano to the Mets for Luis Castillo is "a possibility," not a solid lead.

Just hours after we found out about a deal being in the works to bring Jason Bay to Flushing, another significant free agent signing is being reported.

ESPN Radio’s Rich Coutinho is reporting that the Mets are close to signing catcher, Bengie Molina , to a two-year deal. Financial terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed.

Last season with the San Francisco Giants, the 36-year-old Molina hit .265 with 20 home runs and 80 RBI.

Ironic, isn’t it? In agreeing to a deal with the NY Mets, former Red Sox OF Jason Bay may be flushing his career right down the toilet.

According to multiple reports, Bay has reached an agreement with the Metropolitans on a four-year deal that will guarantee him at least $66 million.  It includes a vesting option for a fifth year (that is readily attainable IF he remains healthy) that would increase his overall compensation to over $80 million.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post is reporting that the New York Mets have reached an agreement on a four-year, $66 million deal with outfielder Jason Bay, pending a physical.

The New York Mets had been having a quiet offseason—until today. Monday, WFAN's Mike Francesa said that he has some major Mets news that he will announce Tuesday.

As promised, on Francesa's show he let out the news that the Mets have reached and agreement with Boston outfielder Jason Bay.

The Mets have finally, finally, finally made a move this off-season.

In an off-season full of total disappointment as Mets GM Omar Minaya failed to make plays for John Lackey, Jason Marquis, Randy Wolf, and Roy Halladay, it appears that the Mets will finally make a splash this winter.

According to WFAN radio host Mike Francesca, the Mets will sign outfielder Jason Bay to a long term contract. The deal is pending a physical and, according to Francesca, the Mets will make an announcement after the New Year.

Off Season Moves Coming This Week

According to sources the Mets will come to an agreement with free-agent outfielder Jason Bay early next week.  They are awaiting results from a physical examination before the deal is announced

Bay must have seen the market for his services dissipate over the past few weeks and decided Flushing was the best place to settle down.

Tim Dierkes of MLBTraderumors.com is reporting that the Giants are close to a deal with utility man Mark DeRosa.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal tweeted around 12:45 Monday afternoon that DeRosa and the Giants were nearing a two-year agreement worth $12 million.
