Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: National League Only Edition for Week 22

It’s time for another ride on the waiver wire roller coaster.  I know some of you are searching high and low for any bit of help with all the trade activity and waiver claims that went down.  These moves can wreak havoc on a fantasy roster.

Is Josh Thole a Usable Catcher for Fantasy Baseball Owners?

When the Mets let Rod Barajas move across the country to Los Angeles, they effectively handed the everyday job to Josh Thole, the team’s top catching prospect.

The final few weeks of the season will operate as a test of sorts.  The Mets need to determine if Thole has what it takes to handle the everyday job in 2011 or if they need to shop in free agency again.

Fantasy Baseball Minor League Player of the Year: Atlanta Braves

As the minor league season comes to a close, it’s time to start looking at each organization and determine who is the team’s Fantasy Baseball Minor League Player of the Year.

First, the criteria:

Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: 2010 Strikeout Kings, Vol. 10 (Sept. 2)

Here are some reasonably available players to assist you in the Strikeouts category.

Ian Kennedy, Arizona Diamondbacks

Fantasy Baseball Closing Situations: Looking at the Closers of the NL West

It’s time to continue our journey around the league, looking at each team’s closer situation. The National League West is home to one of, if not the, worst bullpens in the league, but also a few of the elite closers.  Let’s take a look at all the updated situations:

Fantasy Baseball Free Agent Pool: 2010 Speed Demons, Vol. 10 (Sept. 1)

Just because you’ve slipped behind in the Stolen Base category doesn’t mean you can’t catch up. Here are some reasonably available SB threats.

Eric Young, Jr., 2B/OF, Colorado Rockies

Young had seven stolen bases in the past 15 days while hitting .246 with eight runs. On the year he’s hitting .245 with 12 SBs, 17 runs, and three RBI in 98 ABs. Eric is owned in 25 percent of CBS and 10 percent of ESPN leagues.

Should Fantasy Baseball Owners Avoid Phil Hughes in September?

When you look at Phil Hughes’ numbers on the surface, things look good.  He’s got 15 wins.  He’s sporting a respectable (though not as much in 2010) ERA of 4.12.  His WHIP is solid at 1.25.

However, entering last night’s start those numbers are a bit deceiving.  Just look at his ERAs over the past three months:
