Forty Years Later and Still Amazin': The 1969 Mets Remembered!!!

On October 16, 1969, Baltimore has a runner on base with two outs.  The Orioles are trailing by two runs in the top half of the ninth inning.  They are on the brink of an incredible elimination in the World Series.  Mets' starter Jerry Koosman has his sign and delivers the pitch to Baltimore's second-baseman Davey Johnson.  Johnson swings.  He hits a long and towering fly ball to left field.  Left-fielder Cleon Jones is tracking the fly ball.  He continues tracking the ball back, back, back, almost at the warning track.  Jones reads it.  He opens his glove awaiting the catch, dropping drop

Aaron Boone Leaning Toward Retirement

The off-season has already begun for 26 major league baseball teams.  The off-season is filled with trades, signings, firings, hirings, and sadly retirements.  The New York Yankees have not started their off-season yet, and they don't want to until they're holding up a World Series trophy at a parade in New York.

But there are three other teams left in the postseason that also want to hold up a World Series trophy in the end.

The 2009 Bleacher Report Featured Columnist Baseball Awards

Anybody who has ever watched baseball with any conviction at all knows that debating over who should win Major League Baseball's annual awards is almost as fun as watching what unfolds during the postseason. With those awards, however, occasionally comes winners who make the baseball viewing public scratch their heads, and wonder what the baseball writers of America were thinking (i.e. MVPs Albert Belle in 1995, Willie Mays in 1962).

Rodriguez's Sudden Postseason Arrival Is Vital, Good to Expunge 'Roids

NEW YORK—We’re imploring and dreaming of an epic classic, a spectacle that’s enticing enough to discard all the steroid bust that has disappointed us for much of the season. Right now, baseball happens to have a dream series in mind, as many are thinking blue and wishing for pinstripes.

Yes, our eyes are set on a Dodgers-Yankees World Series, and to predict a series, it has the makings for a historic and memorable classic in ages.

Dear Cincinnati Reds: I Have a Good Idea

This season has left much to be desired for Reds fans and, as always, has left a lot of concerns to be dealt with.

There is a concern for many Reds fans that  isn’t exactly issue numero uno , but it is still an issue that I would like to bring attention to.

Hitting Coach Brook Jacoby.

What exactly does he do? Jacoby has been given plenty of talent to work with: Ken Griffey Jr., Adam Dunn, Brandon Phillips, Jay Bruce, Joey Votto, etc., but the results we see on the field and on the baseball cards have been spotty at best.

Will Jason Marquis Be a New York Met in 2010?

The Mets have several holes to fill this winter, and one of the many concerns is the starting rotation.

Oliver Perez, John Maine, and Mike Pelfrey all may have the talent to be solid starters behind Johan Santana, but all three of them need to prove that they can contribute positively to the rotation for the whole season.

Perez missed a significant portion of the last season because of lingering knee trouble, which did require surgery, but prior to that, he had a lot of problems with his control and was placed in the bullpen.

Phillies Win, But Hamels' Display Disappoints

Cole Hamels may have come away with the win Thursday, but his behavior after Chase Utley’s 5th-inning throwing error was disturbing.

After Utley failed to complete a double play Chase threw his arms up in the air and stared in Utley’s direction. Not extremely demonstrative and I can understand his frustration, but you do not show up your teammates like that. Period.

The Top 10 Latino Yankees in League Championship Series

Joe Girardi is fully enjoying his first appearance in League Championship Series as the New York Yankees manager.

Hopefully he would love that his joyous ride continues all the way to the Fall Classic.  However, first of all they have to beat the red hot Los Angeles Angels.

Did WFAN Curse the Mets?

More on the WFAN curse I tweeted last weekend. (The Mets haven’t won the World Series since WFAN has been in Queens. Now that they’re in Manhattan…good sign for 2010?).

WFAN’s first broadcast in Queens was July 1st, 1987. The Mets were the defending World Champions. The Mets went 17-30 from that point for the rest of the season, finishing in second place. The Mets have been back to the World Series just once in that time.

New York Mets: Why Daniel Murphy Deserves To Be The Every Day First Baseman

There has been a lot of debate about who should get the first base job for the Mets in 2010.

But most people seem to think it should go to someone other than Daniel Murphy.

They'll tell you he doesn't have the bat to be an every day first baseman.

This couldn't be further from the truth.

Murph had one bad slump early on in the year. After that, he was one of the most productive hitters on our team. The early slump killed his season averages and made him look like an ordinary hitter.
