A few years back, a general manager of a limited-budget team shook his head while talking about the New York Yankees.

Apparently, the Los Angeles Angels were paying very close attention.

The Miami Marlins are apparently on the verge of trading a budding young star, as the Seattle Mariners are reportedly working to obtain outfielder Marcell Ozuna, per ESPN.com's Jerry Carsick. In fact, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro noted Ozuna could be part of a bigger deal.

Catchers generally get plenty of chances to prove themselves in Major League Baseball, and veteran backstop Geovany Soto now has a new lease on life after agreeing to a deal with the Los Angeles Angels in free agency.

A big part of assessing the long list of free agents each year is identifying the players who stand a good chance of bouncing back. In the past, we’ve seen plenty of “risky” free agents go on to successfully prove their worth.

The Chicago White Sox and Colorado Rockies pulled off a minor trade on Tuesday, with reliever Tommy Kahnle going to the White Sox in exchange for minor league right-hander Yency Almonte.

The vast majority of rumors and speculation never amount to more than fodder for fans and pundits to debate, with only the tiniest percentage actually manifesting itself as an actual trade. That's not to say that there's no basis for these rumors—teams discuss potential trades all the time.

But some of the rumors out there are so mind-numbing that I choose not to include them in our weekly look at potential deals based on all the noise coming from the rumor mill. Take Robinson Cano, for example.

Every MLB teams has a best-case scenario on how their offseason could play out in terms of what specific players they add to address their various areas of need.

However, with 29 other teams vying for the services of the same crop of free agents, things don't always go according to plan, and teams are often forced to move on to Plan B or Plan C to address a particular need.

So with that in mind, what follows is a look at the best fallback options at each position in this year's free-agent class.
