There's a one-in-three chance Justin Verlander will win the American League Cy Young Award on Wednesday. Two things will happen if he does.

One: A trophy case that already features a Cy Young alongside a Rookie of the Year Award and a Most Valuable Player Award will look even better. Two: His trade value, which skyrocketed in 2016, will inch even higher.

When you're also up for the Most Valuable Player Award, winning Rookie of the Year is a mere formality.

Still, Corey Seager will take it.

Corey Seager and Mike Fulmer need to clear room on their mantles for some new hardware. 

On Monday, the Baseball Writers' Association of America announced the Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop and Detroit Tigers pitcher were named the National League and American League Rookies of the Year, respectively. 

Michael Fulmer of the Detroit Tigers was named the 2016 American League Rookie of the Year on Monday. He beat out fellow finalists Gary Sanchez of the New York Yankees and Tyler Naquin of the Cleveland Indians for the honor.

The 2016 MLB Rookie of the Year awards were handed out Monday night, making this the perfect time to look ahead to who might make up next year's crop of candidates for the honor.

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was a unanimous selection in the National League, while Detroit Tigers pitcher Michael Fulmer took home the American League award, per BBWAA.com.

So who's next?

Second baseman Neil Walker will return to Citi Field to continue his stint with the New York Mets after accepting the team's $17.2 million qualifying offer, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported Monday.

Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu opted out of the final three years of his six-year, $68 million deal with the team Monday, according to CSN Chicago's Dan Hayes.  

The 29-year-old still belongs to the White Sox but will undergo arbitration each offseason until 2019. 

A Cuban defector, Abreu came to the United States in 2014 and quickly became one of the league's most feared power hitters. 

After having his best season while with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016, Jeremy Hellickson has decided to extend that partnership by accepting the team's $17.2 million qualifying offer.  

Free-agent slugger Mark Trumbo is coming off a career season, which will only drive up his value on the market this winter.
