I'm reminded of a scene in a movie, where Jack Nicholson is walking out of a psychiatrist's office.  He stops, looks at the patrons in the waiting room and asks...

"What if this is as good as it gets?"

Well, what if this David Wright, the peaks and valleys, the streaks and slumps, the hold your breath every time he throws the ball to first base...

What if this is as good as he gets?

No one will argue that Wright has shown flashes of brilliance in his Major League career.

To say Jason Bay has had a fairly quiet start to his time as a Met would be an understatement. The prized offseason acquisition has been as good as invisible in the heart of Jerry Manuel's lineup, struggling to find his grove at the plate.

If Citi Field is the ballpark where home runs go to die, Jason Bay is the hitter who has killed innings that once start with so much promise. Well, him and Jeff "4-6-3" Francoeur.

The booing of New York Mets third baseman David Wright is unfortunately becoming a common occurrence at Citi Field.

New York Mets starting pitcher Oliver Perez just didn’t have it, the bullpen finally failed and the offense once again failed to show up against Carlos Silva of all people, as the Mets dropped the third game of a four game series 9-3 to the Chicago Cubs.

Last year I got into a debate with a couple of guys from work.  The night before, I had just watched the end of a Cubs game and witnessed one of the lamest things I had ever seen/heard.

The Cubbies had just pulled off a victory and I started to hear 1970s folk music playing.  I literally thought there was an audio problem with the broadcast.  I realized pretty quickly that it wasn't a mistake, and the annoying sound was coming from Wrigley Field.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, the Astros, who have very little hope of competing this year, are considering trading their ace Roy Oswalt who has a no-trade clause.

It seems as though Carlos Beltran could have played his last baseball game, at least in the near future.

Beltran played in 81 games in 2009 because of knee bruises and the time off and rehab from surgery has not healed the bruises.

For this reason, he is not ready to resume baseball activities at this time, no timetable has been set on when its possible to return to the Mets.

Just when things were starting to look up for Jose Reyes on the field, a new scandal off the field could put the young shortstop's season in jeopardy. This morning Jose was questioned by the feds in regards to his "Professor Reyes Spanish Academy."

Carlos Beltran met with the doctors in Vail, Colorado this week in what was supposed to be a final test before he started rehab, but even though he is “making progress,” Beltran has not been cleared to resume baseball activity.

The Mets wouldn’t call it a setback, but in reality it is hard to imagine that this isn’t exactly that. Two weeks ago they said it would be any day until he was going to start running again, but here we are and Beltran still off his feet.

In typical New York Mets fashion, the opposite of what was expected is now becoming a reality.

If someone were to tell you last February that Jason Bay and David Wright would be the problem during the early days of the 2010 season and not the pitching staff, you would have probably looked at them as if they had spent the last 12 months on the moon.

But as we should have expected, the opposite is once again ringing true with this ball club.
