Strength in Numbers: 9 Ways the New York Mets Can Reach October

Will the Mets light up victory cigars in 2009?

As I write this, I have just witnessed the New York Mets get two-hit by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second game of a four-game set at Citi Field to fall to 35-34 on the year, three losses back of the first-place Philadelphia Phillies.

Out Of Fuel: Powerless Mets Decked By Cards

The Mets were beaten by Joel Pineiro and the Cardinals tonight by the score of 3-0. Livan Hernandez pitched well once again, allowing just three runs in seven innings, but Pineiro was just better. He pitched to contact, and his sinker was working with perfection. The Mets just simply had nothing to answer him with.

New York Mets: There Is No Need To Make a Trade

In this past month, the New York Mets have turned into the New York Bets; people all around the world are betting on when the next Mets player will find himself with all the others on the bloated DL. Some even go a little bit farther and pick a player.

Some of the biggest names on the Mets' disabled list are Jose Reyes, Carlos Delgado, JJ Putz, Oliver Perez, John Maine, and the newest player to join the club, Carlos Beltran.

Standing Strong: Jerry Manuel Tries to Make Statement

Yesterday, I spent a while sitting in the car while driving to the Mets game, and I listened to Mike Francesa talk about how the Mets’ season is effectively over. He said, “Rather than the Mets trying to tread water, they are just trying to tread.”

While this may be an accurate statement, I am not going to be so quick to just give up on the team. That won’t solve any of our problems.

Remember what Tug McGraw said, "Ya gotta believe!"

The Nostalgic Past: Steve Henderson

In an exclusive series to How Bout Them Mets we will look back at some of the transactions made by the New York Mets in their 47 year history. I would like to focus on those acquisitions which on the surface sent Mets fans into a frenzy.

What could be a better starter then the man (actually one of the men) who was traded for “The Franchise”, Tom Seaver. When this trade became known to the public it was known in New York as the “Midnight Massacre.”

Series Preview: Central-Leading Cardinals Come To Citi Field

When Mets fans think about the St. Louis Cardinals, the first flashback is to Game Seven of the 2006 National League Championship Series.  Yadier Molina has given the Cardinals a lead.  Adam Wainwright is on the mound throwing un-hittable curveballs in the ninth inning, and Carlos Beltran is frozen at the plate as strike three is called.

fixThe Cardinals went on to defeat the heavily-favored Detroit Tigers, while Mets fans saw their season end sooner than they thought.

New York Mets' Carlos Beltran Headed To the DL

According to WFAN in New York, the New York Mets will place OF Carlos Beltran on the 15 Day DL. Beltran went for a MRI today on his right knee, and apparently there was something serious enough to warrant a DL stint for Beltran. The Mets handling of injuries the last two years have been comical at best, so the explanation of why Beltran is going to the DL should be one for the ages.

Fantasy Week In Review, June 15-21

Last week was a week for the first basemen in the National League to shine. Albert Pujols, Prince Fielder, and Derek Lee all had monster fantasy weeks.
We also saw the final straw for Daisuke Matsuzaka, a classic New York Mets injury situation, and the possible end of everyone’s man crush in Texas.

As always, here are the fantasy studs, the players who have me concerned and the potential pick-ups for the fantasy week of June 15-21.
