Mets: Nothing Supernatural Sunday About Johan Santana

Johan Santana would have become the ace of the Yankees after the 2007 season, if the club agreed to include Phil Hughes in a proposed trade with the Twins. The Yanks at the time overvalued Hughes, and the deal fell through.

Now, Santana leads the Mets. On Sunday the left—hander took a historic beating in the Bronx. He allowed nine earned runs for the first time in his career in a Yankees’ 15—0 romp.

Santana allowed nine earned runs on nine hits in three plus innings and saw his ERA soar from 2.39 to 3.29.

Taking A Deep Breath: A Mets' Weekend Evaluation

The Mets came into Friday night’s game with the Yankees in a tough spot. The Yankees had just been swept by the Red Sox and were now 0-8 on the season against them. They had to be hungry, and for the Mets, they had lost a couple of close games against the Phillies that many thought they should’ve won. It was going to be a true test, and until the bottom of the ninth inning, they had passed the test with flying colors.

If only Luis Castillo had used two hands.

The Amazin' World of a Mets Fan

It would be unbelievable if it wasn’t so believable.

When Luis Castillo dropped that pop-up on Friday, I was as stunned as every other Mets' fan. When Johan Santana got completely hammered today, I may have been just as stunned (well, not really – but do we actually need to start worrying about him now?). Listening to Tim McCarver sing on Saturday may have been the most stunning moment of all. If you thought the Phillies series was bad, that was a walk in the park compared to this weekend.

Mets-Yankees: Mets Suffer Second-Worst Shutout Loss in Team History

If you didn’t watch today’s game between the New York Mets and New York Yankees, I envy you.

I am a baseball junkie, I love to just watch the game; Any two teams at any time.

However, today’s game was a painful one to sit through, and if it were not for the fact that it was a Mets game, the television would have been shut off after the fourth inning.

Sorry for the editorializing.

Mets and Blue Jays: Keep The Blue, Drop The Black

The New York Mets are one of the nicest looking teams in the majors. When they wear nice looking uniforms.

The Mets currently have five home uniform combinations, pinstripes with blue cap, pinstripes with black cap, solid whites with blue caps, solid white with black cap, and solid black with black cap.

Despite being named 'primary home uniform', the Mets only wear their best looking uniform on Sundays, and wear the solid whites (the 'first alternate uniform') every other day of the week.

The 1960s, among many other things, were known for the next level of television programming. If the '50s were the “Golden Age of TV”, then the 1960s were “The Teenage Years.” Oh my God!

Luis Castillo Is a Man

Earlier this week, Mets manager Jerry Manuel walked out mound to get Johan Santana.  Johan did not want to come out of the game.  He's a competitor and he was beating the Phillies.  I understand.

We learned after the game what he was saying to Manuel on the mound.  Johan has a saying, "I'm a man, I'm a man."

I don't know what Johan means by this; I'm sure it has meaning to him.

What I do know, is Luis Castillo is a man, and I'm proud to have him on my team.

The 2009 Mets: Well, It Could Be Worse

There was a time, not too long ago in fact, that every team in Major League Baseball could consider themselves a contender for a World Series crown.

It was a time of unbridled optimism for every fan of every team. A time where those fans could argue that this was the year that their team surprised everybody (or lived up to lofty expectations), without sounding the least bit ridiculous (except for Nationals fans, of course).

Don't Forget About That Team in Queens; the New York Mets!

The New York Mets are always slow out of the gates. This explains the reason for them being four games back in the NL East.

If the Mets can out last late season injuries they will undoubtedly be my favorite to win the NL and most likely the World Series in 2009.

There are many reasons why I believe the Mets will be holding the trophy at the end of the season.

When you take a look at this Mets team it has one big difference that it hasn't had in the past. That difference is pitching.

There Is No Way to Describe It: The Mets Lose a Tough One to The Yankees

To say this loss was a tough one is a huge understatement, this picture says it all.

The day started off with such promise, I got to the ballpark in the Bronx almost three and a half hours before the game, was the first one into the stadium at Gate 6, and was able to sit in the most comfortable seats in right field (for batting practice at least).

My friend (although a Yankees fan), caught one of two balls thrown up by the Ryan Church before security kicked everyone out who didn't have seats on field level.
