A Minor Trade: Mets Acquire Emil Brown

The Mets made a minor trade to try and bolster their depth as they acquired Padres outfielder Emil Brown for a player to be named later.

With the Mets’ recent rash of injuries, Brown will provide some needed depth at Triple-A for the Bisons in case anyone else gets hurt.

Brown turns 35 in December, and has hit as many as 17 homers on the Major League level. In 2005, Brown hit .286 with 17 homers and 86 RBI.

If he could regain some of that old ability, he could be a reliable option for Buffalo, and could serve as an insurance policy for the Mets.

Fernando Martinez Being Benched a Coincidence?

Jerry Manuel has made it abundantly clear that Fernando Martinez was punished enough for the big mistake that he made during Wednesday’s game against the Nationals.

Martinez hit a high pop fly and didn’t run, and surely enough, the ball wasn’t caught, and Martinez was thrown out. The crowd booed as they didn’t appreciate the lack of hustle by the young rookie.

Mets Prove That The Little Things Are Just That...Little

Last night Mets rookie Fernando Martinez failed to run out a pop-up that was dropped by Nationals' Catcher Will Nieves. Had he run hard to first, Fernando would have been safe.

The play was inconsequential as the Mets beat the Nationals 7-4, and moved into first place in the NL East.

Mistakes like the one Martinez made last night are refered to as "rookie mistakes."  Martinez is a rookie, these things happen.

The Ultimate Mets Fantasy League.

Have you ever wondered how the 1999 team would have faired if Tom Seaver pitched for them? How about Gil Hodges managing David Wright and John Olerud? All of your Met fantasies can finally come to life…simulated life that is.

The Mets' Pitching Rotation: Rounding Into Form

Heading into June, teams across the Majors are now seriously evaluating their lineups and seeing where they need to improve.

The time has come for Mets general manager Omar Minaya to work the phones and see about possible trades. The Mets have been bitten by the injury bug, making it a little tougher, but the rotation has been healthy for the most part.

The Mets have gotten some great starts lately and it is translating into wins.

Hey Jerry Manuel, Give Daniel Murphy a Chance!

Over the past few weeks, injuries have plagued the New York Mets, who have been struggling to find a consistent lineup that will produce.

The roster has consisted of platoons and fill-ins and, for the most part, they have done their job.

However, one of those platoon players has the potential to be an everyday hitter and a very solid contributor to the lineup.

That player is Daniel Murphy.

Video Replay Favoring Mets, But Possibly Flawed

For the past few series', the New York Mets have been thriving on the success of their starting pitching, Gary Sheffield, and MLB's new video replay.

In recent games, the Mets have had three home runs reviewed. The first took place against the Red Sox in Boston when Omir Santos hit a fly ball just over the green monster to give the Mets a 3-2 ninth inning lead.

Washington Nationals Scouting New York Mets' Minor League System

According to Gordon Edes of Yahoo! Sports the Washington Nationals are scouting the Triple-A team in Buffalo, NY, and the Double-A team in Binghamton, NY.

Injury Bug Bites NY Mets

New York Mets outfielder Ryan Church and shortstop Jose Reyes have been put on the 15-day DL today.

Reyes has been bothered by a hamstring problem, which also affected his hip the last 11 games. And Church has also been bothered by a sore right hamstring.

Center fielder Carlos Beltran will also miss the next three games as an MRI today revealed bruising in his knee.

Reyes and Church on DL, Beltran to Sit For Three Days with Bruised Knee

The Mets have placed both Jose Reyes and Ryan Church on the 15-day disabled list, have activated F Mart from Buffalo, and have purchased a minor league shortstop from the Cleveland Indians.

Carlos Beltran has a bruise in his knee, which will require treatment and will not be available until at least Friday.

Being that it is only May and the Mets are playing the Nationals for two more days, weather permitting that is, they can afford to be short handed for a few games.
