World Series Preview: What the New York Yankees Must Do to Win it All

Well...that was fast. My night of celebration ended about 15 minutes after I posted the last piece . Immediately, my mind started to shift to the new question at hand.

How do the Yankees beat the Phillies this week?

Here's the game plan, in three(-ish) parts:

1. Use the Long Lineup to Tire Out Cliff Lee and the Philly Starters Early. Then, Go to Work on the Bullpen.

At Last, Yankees Validates Traditional Earnings

They haven’t won 26 titles in 40 appearances for nothing, or haven’t spent an outrageous $423.5 million for the series MVP C.C. Sabathia, Mark Teixeira and A.J. Burnett. Even the house Derek Jeter built was invested, confident of reliving glorious celebrations and pennant runs.

Last year alone the dauntless co-chairmen Hank and Hal Steinbrenner, spent $1.5 billion in creations of the immense Yankee Stadium when times were fragile, and battered in economic downturns.

Yankees Earn Their Way Back to Baseball's Greatest Stage

I liken my feeling prior to first pitch of Game Six last night to how Lindsay Lohan must feel on the eve of a mandatory probation hearing.

Unjustly annoyed. Kind of dazed. Quite nervous. Thinking about what can be ingested to take the edge off things.

I was annoyed because I knew the series should already be over. I was dazed because all those maddening off days had turned my apartment into the Overlook Hotel. (All off days and no play make Dan a dull boy.) I was nervous because of 2004. I was thinking about drinking gluttonous amounts of vodka.

Backed by Rivera and Pettitte, Yankees Win Pennant

Behind by two in the eighth inning with the speedy Chone Figgins on second base, Anaheim Angels’ slugger and future Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero took what may have been his final swing as a member of the franchise, slicing a cut fastball from New York Yankees famed closer Mariano Rivera into right field.

Figgins sped around third and scored. It was the first run Rivera had allowed at home in the postseason since 2000, a span of 36 innings, and the last the resilient Angels would score in their ever-so-successful season.

Yankees Beat Bumbling Angels 5-2, Advance to World Series

The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim found out with the Minnesota Twins already knew.

World Series 2009 Prediction from WhatIfSports.com

Our computer is on a roll.  It correctly picked North Carolina basketball to win it all in the 2009 NCAA tournament , the 2009 Stanley Cup champion, the Lakers over the Magic in the 2009 NBA Finals , and the Pittsburgh Steelers to win

George Steinbrenner's Diamond In The Bronx Has a Chip In It

The phrase "age can be deceiving" now applies to the new Yankee Stadium. After several investigations by construction companies, the concrete ramps at the new Yankee Stadium have been found to have deep cracks. The new state-of-the-art home of the Yankees has only been open for about seven months. The cost of building George Stienbrenner's new palace cost the Yankees a total of $1.5 billion.

The New York Times has reported that both the Yankees are trying to see if there was anything wrong with the installation of the ramps or their design, when the stadium was first built.

All Eyes on Andy Pettitte After Mother Nature Moves Game Six

After Game 6 of the ALCS was postponed due to rain, there was the Yankees veteran left-hander warming up in the outfield. He took sprints on the puddle-filled warning track.

It was as if Game 6 was still going to happen.

Andy Pettitte stood out there in an empty Yankee Stadium contemplating the importance of lifting his team to the World Series just one more time.

The rain-soaked Pettitte later took a seat in the empty stadium. Yankee Stadium is most definitely not going to be empty for Game 6.

Should The Yankees Start CC Sabathia Or Pettitte in Game 6 of The ALCS?

Yesterday, I was debating with some people about who should be starting game 6: Sabathia or Pettitte. My thinking was, since CC is on regular rest, you have to pitch him. You can't worry about who will be available for the World Series until you actually get there.

Their argument was, if it goes to a Game 7, you want CC pitching, and if it doesn't, you have him for Game 1 of the World Series. I definitely could see this line of reasoning, I just preferred to see the Yanks close it out tonight.

Yankees-Angels Postponed: Why CC Sabathia Should Start Game 6 on Sunday

Before Game 6 of the American League Championship Series was postponed just after 6 pm ET on Saturday, Yankees manager Joe Girardi had said that in the event of a rain out, scheduled starter Andy Pettitte would still start if the game was pushed back a day and CC Sabathia would start a possible Game 7 on Monday.

While Pettitte is a veteran pitcher capable of closing out the ALCS for the Yanks, starting Sabathia on Sunday would be a better choice for two reasons.
