The Texas Rangers have always hoped that when they acquired Cliff Lee last year, that it wouldn't just be for the remainder of the season.  They were hoping that they would be able to sign him this offseason despite him becoming a free agent. 

With all the talk with the Rangers lately about re-signing Cy Young Pitcher Cliff Lee lately, one fact has surfaced lately: It will cost an arm and a leg to sign him to a long-term contract.

Think back to your high school years and all of the silly “relationships” you were in. How many times did you date someone for awhile before briefly splitting up, only to resume dating days, sometimes hours, later?

It’s okay to be honest, everyone does it that way during the teenage years because the human race tends to be awkward and extremely immature between the ages of 14 and 18 (and beyond).

Jayson Werth's 7 year/$126 million contract has done many things to the baseball world—shocked it, confused it, angered it, and mocked it.

These types of contracts usually haven't caused players to live up to the ridiculous amount of money that they are paid.

The baseball world is still whining and complaining about Jayson Werth's seven-year, $126 million contract with the Washington Nationals.

Let 'em whine, I say.

For some reason, the Nationals just can't placate anyone, so why try? For years, the team has been slapped about because they refused to spend millions of dollars on players who wouldn't help them become a contender.

Signing Adam Dunn was step one for the White Sox this off-season. However that signing doesn't look nearly as good if the Sox don't find a way to bring Paul Konerko back to the South Side.

The question is: how much is Paul Konerko worth? At what point do his salary demands become unrealistic for a first baseman who will be 35 by the time he reports to spring training next season?

With the ungodly signing of Jayson Werth to a seven-year, $126 million contract the cost of outfield help has gone through the roof. The Tigers are most likely working pretty hard to get a deal in place with Magglio Ordonez to be the right fielder in 2011. However, because of the lack of outfield depth on the free-agent market, Ordonez might be able to land a ridiculous deal. If that happens the Tigers may be forced to look to the trade market.

Deal He Will Get: Seven years, $18 million/year

Deal He Should Get: Five years, $10 million/year
