Alex Cora: More Than Just a Bench Player

The New York Mets released Alex Cora on Saturday, putting an end to Cora's two-year stint here in New York. It wasn't a easy move by the front office, but it made sense. Cora is batting just .209 and his vesting option for 2011 was approaching.

Is It Time to Bury The Colorado Rockies Season?

So are the Rockies done yet? 2-2 against the Pittsburgh Pirates, including a heart breaking home run walk off on Saturday night seemed to be the gut punch rip your heart out end of the season.

However, the Rox bounced back on Sunday with a win and split the road series at 2-2.

Monday Morning Manager: My Weekly Take on the Detroit Tigers

Last Week: 2-5
This Week: TB (8/9-11); at CWS (8/13-15)

So What Happened?

The Tigers’ freefall down the chute of the AL Central continued in earnest last week.

Last Monday, MMM said that if the Tigers were still in this race, there was no time like the present to make their case for such consideration.

Pittsburgh PIrates' Pitchers: Do Debuts Mean Anything?

James McDonald had a brilliant outing with six innings of shutout ball in his first appearance with the Pittsburgh Pirates. This caused one reader of my previous piece to fear that it might be a fluke. "I wouldn't get my hopes up yet," he wrote resignedly.

And his remark carried a point: Just because McDonald put up a Cy Young-caliber showing in his debut outing doesn't mean that he will be the next Cy Young candidate.

But it's not devoid of meaning, either, because the Pirates have already gotten more than they could reasonably expect.

New York Yankees: A Milestone Night in the Bronx

By now, you all know the Yankees have had many great baseball players suit up in pinstripes. This years' team is no different.

While we can talk about the terrific last minute start by Dustin Moseley, I'd rather take a look at some of the milestones that were set by a trio of current great Yankees players.

MLB: Dustin Moseley Answers Yankees Alarm

The performance by Dustin Moseley last night against the Boston Red Sox reminded me of test taking.

Remember when you would study weeks in advance for a big test and when it came down to actually completing said test, your mind would go blank? Remember those tests when you crammed to study the night before, keeping the information fresh while also not allowing you to over think it?

Brandon Morrow Strikes Out 17: Why He Should Be on Your Fantasy Team

Yesterday, Toronto Blue Jay Brandon Morrow arguably pitched the strongest outing of the year, let alone one of the finest in history. Morrow went 8 2/3 before surrendering a single to Evan Longoria off the glove of Aaron Hill. In only 136 pitches (93 for strikes), he gave up one hit and two walks. Oh yeah, then there was the 17 strikeouts, the most in a game since Johan Santana had 17 in 2006.

An Eventful Sunday Night for the New York Yankees

Sunday night games on ESPN are bound to be a roller coaster ride. Tonight was no exception for the New York Yankees.

It all started when starting pitcher A.J.

Strengths and Weaknesses for Every Division Leader in MLB

Every team in Major League Baseball has about 50 games to go in the regular season.

Most division leaders are involved in tight races that will be decided in late September.

All six teams have one thing in common. They have their strengths and weaknesses.

It's a very important topic because it'll decide whether a team is in good shape to make a big run or not.

So, without further ado, here is a breakdown of every division leader's strengths and weaknesses.
