Here’s the first look at the 2014 Lester’s Legends’ Designated Hitter Rankings.


1. David Ortiz, Boston Red Sox

Big Papi just keeps delivering. He hit .309 with 84 runs, 30 home runs and 103 RBI. He hit .688 with two home runs and six RBI during the World Series.


2. Carlos Santana, Cleveland Indians

Every year, baseball fans' excitement about top prospects in major league spring training seems to grow. Unfortunately, it also makes it easy to overlook some of the game's less glamorous, under-the-radar prospects.

Besides providing an opportunity for players to fine-tune their skills in anticipation of the season, participating in major league camp also offers prospects the chance to make a strong impression in front of the entire organization.

Spring training has begun, and there are many players wearing brand-new uniforms. Some teams did a great job with this over the winter, and they used their money wisely. They brought in quality talent for a reasonable price. They did not waste needlessly, but they made the moves that they needed to make to be prepared for 2014.

These are the basic criteria that led me to conclude that the following seven teams were the smartest spenders of this past offseason.

The mystery of Yasiel Puig was revealed after he burst onto the big league scene in early June and helped carry the Los Angeles Dodgers to an unbelievable run from worst to first in the NL West and all the way to the National League Championship Series. 

Spring training is like a great awakening across Arizona and Florida as teams build hope and expectations for the year to come. Luckily, the Cubs aren't trying to fool anyone into thinking they'll contend this year.

1. Craig Kimbrel, Atlanta Braves

Craig Kimbrel has a 1.48 ERA, a 0.57 WHIP, 138 saves and 341 strikeouts in 206.2 innings over the past three seasons. He’s as dominant as they come.


2. Aroldis Chapman, Cincinnati Reds

With the top 150 fantasy baseball players all ordered and ranked on the inaugural Big Board, it's time to get into the individual position rankings.

Spring training is finally upon us. After a long offseason, baseball is back, and more specifically, Philadelphia Phillies baseball is back.

Every spring training defined storylines are set. However, as it progresses, some unexpected developments take place and change everything fans had assumed. Breakout stars emerge and other “sure things” disappoint.

Pitchers and catchers are reporting to spring training, and I am happy to see baseball finally starting to get underway again. As the players are getting ready to start the campaign, some of them seem to be in great shape already. For some, they seem to have made major physical changes over the winter. For others, perhaps they are coming off of an excellent performance in winter baseball, and they are looking forward to a huge season potential.

Either way, they are in some type of great shape, and I want to give you five examples of this.
