Though the Major League Baseball offseason is nearing its end, it's only been three months since the completion of the 2015 World Series. There's a long way to go until the next one.

But in the name of what-the-heckery and might-as-wellery, we're going to turn our attention to the 2016 World Series anyway.

With spring training just a couple of weeks away, we have a solid idea of where teams stand going into 2016. And with that being the case, we can pick out the top 10 World Series contenders.

Some would say that compiling a list of the offseason's biggest steals and mistakes with more than a month to go before spring training begins—and a handful of impact players still available via free agency and trade—is an effort in futility.

After all, teams are sure to make some decisions that will change this list over the next four weeks or so. But there's no time like the present to look back on what's unfolded in the baseball universe over the past three months.

The MLB landscape has been flooded with young talent in recent years, and with no shortage of high-profile prospects on the horizon, that's a trend that doesn't figure to end anytime soon.

Ahead, we've ranked the top 25 players in the league under the age of 25, with the cutoff being the player's age when Opening Day arrives April 3.

Dominant pitching is still the most valuable weapon in contending for a World Series title, but with offense down around the league, having a potent lineup can go a long way as well.

Just how valuable is a good offense?

The four teams that reached the League Championship Series last season—the Blue Jays, Cubs, Mets and Royals—ranked in the top eight in the league in runs scored during the second half of the season.

These rankings were last updated on Dec. 31,  so any transactions that have taken place between then and now were factored into the changes you'll see in the following rankings.

It's risky these days to call any prospect untouchable, as we've seen too many blockbuster deals in recent years to truly believe anyone is 100 percent safe from being moved in the right deal.

That said, a handful of prospects around the league come awfully close to being untouchable, as their future upside and expected long-term role with their teams make trading them highly unlikely.

Let's pretend for a second that every player in Major League Baseball was placed on the trade block.
