The Top 10 Pitching Duos In Baseball

Right after the Halladay, Lee trade went through, I got a text from one of my friends asking me, "Best pitching duo in the league, Phils or Mariners?"

This got my thinking about actually did have the best duo. Did the acquisition of Halladay out front? Or would the top of the Mariners rotation beat the field?

Here's a Thought: Who Did Your Team Get in the Rule 5 Draft? And Is He Any Good?

As one of B/R's resident minor league experts, I often like to share my knowledge of the minors with those of you who don't have the desire and/or the time to keep up with all this stuff, particularly outside of your own favorite organization.

Few times of year in the baseball world call for such a transfer of knowledge as the Rule 5 Draft, which occurred at the Winter Meetings last week.

I thought I'd do a brief writeup of the 17 players selected in the draft.

Joel's MLB Franchise Top 10: Colorado Rockies

This marks the third edition in my new series in which I am attempting to name the top ten players in the history of each MLB franchise. This one will take a look at some of the Rockies greats.

With as prolific an offense as the Rockies have had through the years, it only makes sense that the top seven guys on this list would be hitters.

MLB 9s: Oakland A's Best Ever—Jimmie Foxx, Jose Canseco, Reggie Jackson

If you were looking to pick your greatest ever Athletics lineup, based on single-season offensive performances, where would you start?

For a team with a storied 109-year history, there are options from every era and at every position.

The outfield might be as good a place as any, with a host of Hall of Fame members and All-Stars among their number.

How about the stars from the championship-winning teams that three-peated in the mid 1970s?

Top Five 1-2 Punches for Each League in 2010

Trades are being made... Some rotations are getting stronger, and others are, well... staying the same.

Here are the top five one-two punches for each league in 2010, based off the current depth/rotations.

Joel's MLB Franchise Top 10: Tampa Bay Rays

This is the second in my new series in which I will name what I feel are the top ten players in each MLB franchise's history.

Despite a slow start as a franchise, the Rays finally seem to be heading in the right direction, as years of drafting at the top of the draft have led to a bevy of talented young players.

I have included the players stats during their time with the team, as well as where those stats rank all-time for within the franchise.

I look forward to hearing where you the reader would differ in your top ten, and I welcome your comments.

Red Sox Enter 2010 With a New Look: Hot Stove Update

Despite ending 2009 with a blown opportunity to go to the ALCS, the Boston Red Sox enter 2010 with a completley new look.

The acquisition of John Lackey adds depth to what was already an A+ starting rotation. Likely to be placed in the number three position, the addition leaves the Red Sox in the clear to possibly start 2010 with a six man rotation.

The 31 year old right-hander finished 2009 with an 11-8 record and a ERA at 3.83, his highest ERA since 2004.

Here's a Thought: Breaking Down the Oakland A's Major and Minor League Catchers

Over the course of the offseason, I've looked at a few individual players and also broke down the starting pitching situation for the Oakland A's.
Rather than continuing with the individual approach, I thought it would be better to present everyone in the organization by position, and offer a brief breakdown of where they stand going into 2010.
I'll start behind the plate.
Here are 16 catchers in the organization, some information about them, and what to expect from them in 2010.

Best of the Decade: Starting Pitchers

It seems hard to believe, but we are almost to the year 2010. And with any impending new decade, it seems only fair to look back on the best of the previous 10 years.

So with that, I present my top 10 picks from each position between the years 2000-2009, starting with the 10 best starting pitchers.

The 10 Best Pitchers From The 1890's

There were 36 pitchers from the 1890's that pitched at least 200 games. That is the lowest number of any decade in the history of Major League Baseball, other than the 1870's and 1880's.

The 1890s are an interesting decade to write about, because it was a poor decade for starting pitching numbers. In fact, it is the worst decade in history for starting pitching numbers, other than this decade.
