2010 Phillies: Roy Halladay's Workload a Cause for Concern

Back in December, the Phillies traded for Roy Halladay and promptly signed him to a three year, $60 million dollar contract. They were willing to make the commitment to the 32-year-old ace because of his track record as a dominant pitcher who takes pride in spending as much time on the mound as some of the greats from an earlier era.

The first eight months of Halladay’s tenure with the Phillies have only confirmed his reputation as an old-school workhorse.

Top 5 NL CY Young Candidates

As the MLB season trudges along through the late months of the summer, the CY Young candidates in the National League are becoming clearer by the day.

All five of the guys that I have selected are currently tops in the National League in wins, strikeouts, ERA, and innings pitched.

Tim Lincecum has won the award the past two seasons, but the way it looks he will not win his third consecutive.

Philadelphia Phillies Look To Gain Ground With Three Games vs. Florida

(Coral Gables, FL) - After a disappointing 1-2 in a three game set with the Washington Nationals the Philadelphia Phillies are heading on the road for a three game set with the Florida Marlins.

For the Phillies a three game set with the NL East third ranked Florida Marlins is coming at the worst time. The Phillies are 25-31 on the road this season and with the Marlins only four games back of the Phillies for second place in the division the Fightin's will need to gain ground in Florida if they want to catch up to the Atlanta Braves.

MLB Cy Young Power Rankings: How Far Has Ubaldo Jimenez Fallen?

Now that the trade deadline has passed, the final two months of the season begin to take their course. Now that the All-Star break has passed, it's interesting to see if any frontrunners have fallen or any new faces have made shocking gains.

Except for Ubaldo Jimenez, this is not really the case. The NL frontrunners remain the same top four as it has been all season, though the rankings of the AL may be a surprise.

Here Come the Philadelphia Phillies...Again!

On Thursday, the Philadlephia Phillies General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. completed yet another trade deadline blockbuster which may put the team back on top of the NL East in short order.

With the aquisition of former Houston Astros ace Roy Oswalt, it's arguable the Phillies now boast the best top 3 starting rotation in the National League.

The injury bug has decimated the Phillies throughout season, with only a handful of games being played using the club's top starting lineup.

Welcome Roy Oswalt: You're Not In Texas Anymore!

I feel obligated to snap this off tonight.  The Tex Mex Phillies aka Astros are a much different team and Roy Oswalt deserves some advice upon his arrival.  Considering Houston is like our second home I would like to help him adjust once he gets to Philly (he pitches tomorrow night at the Nats for anyone who has been asleep).

Big Texas Howdy, Roy!  I hope this helps you as much as you will help us on our quest to the World Series!

Ranking the Five No-Hitters So Far in 2010 MLB Season

Now that Matt Garza has provided us with the fifth no-hitter of the season we might as well rank the great performances we have seen. It is apparent that the steroids-era in baseball is over.

Matt Garza No-Hitter: MLB Pitching Dominance Better Than Steroids Era?

Tampa Bay Rays' Matt Garza just tossed Major League Baseball's fifth no-hitter of the season.

You have to go back 20 years to 1990 to find a season with more than three no-hitters, when six were thrown.

In MLB history only 20 pitchers have thrown a perfect game. Two of those were thrown this season, and that doesn't include Armando Galarraga's gem that would have been perfect if not for that one missed call.

If you have been paying attention, you know what is going on.

Josh Johnson, Gaby Sanchez: MLB's and Florida Marlins' Hidden Gems

Josh Johnson makes history each time he takes the mound.

Since he plays for the Florida Marlins, however, media outlets fail to mention him in the NL Cy Young race as often as Ubaldo Jimenez and Adam Wainwright.

Jimenez, whose 15-2 record comes thanks to a hot start in April and May, fares much better with his team's run support.

Over his first 17 starts, the Colorado Rockies pitcher went 13-1 with a 1.15 ERA. In Jimenez's last six starts, he is 2-1 with a 7.64 ERA.

Phillies' GM Ruben Amaro Has Staked His Entire Legacy on Lee Trade

Ruben Amaro must make an immediate, high-impact trade to salvage the Philadelphia Phillies' underwhelming season and his own reputation as a general manager.   The off season trade of Cliff Lee has upset many fans, and the team he has assembled is floundering, currently slightly over the .500 mark.  Furthermore, Amaro's attitude is not endearing fans.

After the announcement of Kendrick's demotion, The Philadelphia Inquirer 's Matt Gelb's posted this on his blog:
