Remembering September 11, 2001 and Its Impact on American Sports

Nine years ago, the entire world changed as 19 terrorists boarded four commercial jets and committed one of the works acts of violence in the world's history.

On tragic day, those terrorists flew two planes into the Twin Tower in New York City, another plane into the Pentagon and the final plane in a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania that was believed to be targeted at hitting the Capitol Building in Washington DC.

Wish We Were There: Don Larsen's Perfect Game

One of the greatest moments in Yankee history occurred on October 8, 1956.  In fact, it is the only such accomplishment of its kind.  Don Larsen threw the only postseason no-hitter and perfect game in Major League Baseball history.  It was done in Game 5 of the World Series.

Derek Jeter: This Yankee Icon Is Not Finished, but Needs To Learn To Adjust

A recent article by John Harper of the New York Daily News quoted two former players saying that Derek Jeter will play hardball with the Yankees over his next contract.

I am asking why would Derek Jeter need to play hardball?

Is he going anywhere else?  No.

Will he ever wear another uniform?  Of course not.

The Experience Of The Core Four Will Prove Invaluable In Playoffs For Yankees

There has never been a more successful quartet of players than Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte, and Jorge Posada who have won a combined 19 World Series together.

Expanding MLB's Playoff Format

Mmm, I don't like it.

Next!

Here's the basis; Tom Verducci at SI.com writes an article suggesting a way to improve Major League Baseball's playoff format and add some revenue. He has an excellent point that recent "win or go home" games have drawn outstanding viewership and the lack of these nail biters have hurt baseball.

Ubaldo Jimenez Sets Colorado Rockies Record With 18 Wins

It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

The fifth time was the charm for Ubaldo Jimenez.

The right-hander picked up his 18th win of the season, a new Rockies record, as he was just good enough to pick up the win in another crucial game for the Rockies, this time coming against the team with the best record in the National League, the Cincinnati Reds.

The Rockies overcame a 4-0 deficit to win 10-5.

Jimenez labored through six innings, wiggling out of a bases-loaded jam in both the fifth and sixth innings and giving up four runs in the third inning.

Scott Brosius Interview: New York Yankees' Blast from the Past

Scott Brosius, '98 World Series MVP, has been out of baseball since 2001.  The three-time World Series winner now coaches baseball at his alma mater in Oregon, Linfield College, where he has put together an impressive resume.

Over his first three seasons at the helm, Brosius compiled an outstanding 100-38 (.724) record.  The Wildcats have won two Northwest Conference Championships and two regional titles.  Linfield finished fifth in the NCAA championship tournament in 2008 and third last season.

2010 World Series: American League Teams Still in the Hunt for October

The 2010 MLB season has not disappointed, as competition is fierce but so is disappointment.

For playoff staples, like the Boston Red Sox and St. Louis Cardinals, things could not have gone any worse. As they say, "When it rains, it pours" and both the above two ball clubs will be noticeably absent. The presence of the Red Sox and Cardinals will be deeply missed, a true heartbreak for all fans of baseball.

So, which American League teams are in contention?

Brian Fuentes Traded To Minnesota Twins To Bolster Bullpen

The Minnesota Twins, not satisfied with having the best bullpen ERA in the American League, went out last night and got themselves another bullpen arm.

Brad Hawpe, Former Colorado Rockie, Signed by Tampa Bay Rays

It didn’t take long for RF Brad Hawpe to find some work.  Hawpe, who cleared waivers on Thursday after being designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies last week, signed with the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday.
