Items From the 2009 WS That Should Be In The Yankees Hall of Fame (Humor)

Recently I has the opportunity to visit the New York Yankees' 2009 World Series exhibit in their Hall of Fame. There were several great pieces of history at display in the exhibit. There was Matsui's bat, Rivera's hat, Damon's spikes, and many more items. But here are some items that may have missed the cut for the exhibit...

Team 84: The 1906 Tigers

  • Year: 1906
  • Record: 71-78
  • Win %: .477
  • Win % Change: -39
  • Run Differential: -81
  • Pythagorean Record: 65-84
  • AL Finish: 6th of 8
  • Manager: Bill Armour
  • Best Transaction: Purchased several good players including, Davy Jones, Ed Siever, and Ed Willett.  Willett and Siever ended up being pretty decent starting pitchers while Jones was a valuable player off of the bench.

Jorge Posada Has NOT Won Five World Series Titles

Three weeks ago, a great deal of the discussion surrounding the Yankees 27th World Championship was about "The Core Four."

Much was made about how Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, and Jorge Posada had remained together since the minor leagues and that they had been instrumental in five world championships in the Bronx.

Forget about Pettitte leaving for three years to go to Houston. Andy has to be considered a key to the Yankees winning these five titles. He was a big-game pitcher in 1996 and contributed to the titles won in 1998, 1999. and 2000.

Team 85: The 1976 Tigers

  • Year: 1976
  • Record: 74-87
  • Win Percentage: .460
  • Win Percent Change: +102
  • Run Differential: -100
  • Pythagorean Record: 69-92
  • AL Finish: 10th of 12
  • Manager: Ralph Houk
  • Best Transaction: Drafted Alan Trammell, Dan Petry, and Jack Morris.  The Tigers didn’t make a lot of moves in 1976, so this stellar draft will have to do.  While Trammell and Morris were both Tigers for over a decade, led them to a World Series and won numerous awards, the Tigers also let one get away in this draft.  In the seventh round the club drafted

Allie Reynolds' Amazing 1952 World Series

The 1952 World Series is usually remembered for Billy Martin's great catch of a Jackie Robinson pop fly with the bases loaded and two outs in the seventh inning of the seventh game.

The catch saved the Series for the Yankees, but the 1952 World Series was memorable in many other ways.

Joe Black Started and Finished Game 1

Rookie right hander Joe Black started Game1 at Ebbets Field against Yankees' ace Allie Reynolds.

Why the New York Yankees "Buying" Players Is Good For Baseball

How many times have you heard that the Yankees buy their players? How many times have you heard how the Yankees buy their championships?

Team 86: The 2008 Tigers

  • Year: 2008
  • Record: 74-88
  • Win %: .457
  • Win % Change: -86
  • Run Differential: -36
  • Pythagorean Record: 78-84
  • AL Finish: 12th of 14
  • Manager: Jim Leyland
  • Best Transaction: Trading for Miguel Cabrera.  Jury is probably still out on this one a bit, but Cabrera sure is good.  The Tigers gave up six prospects to bring Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis to Detroit.  You have to wonder: If this reverse trade were offered to the Tigers RIGHT NOW, would they take it?  With the Tigers looking to unload contracts, would they give up thes

Hate Is the New Love For MLB

I still remember the first day I became a Mets fan.

It was spring of 1990 and there I was, five years old and ready to face the world of tee-ball. Where I lived in California, the teams were not green or orange, but actual baseball teams like the Yankees and the Dodgers.

As it turned out, I was destined to be on the Mets with my dad as coach. From then on, I was a Mets fan. There really are not a lot of memories from that age I can recollect, but this always stuck out in my mind

Pedro Wants to Pitch in 2010

According to foxsports.com, the agent for Pedro Martinez said Pedro has decided he wants to pitch in 2010. This is future Hall of Famer Pedro Martinez who has racked up 219 wins and only a 100 losses, all in the “Steroid ERA.” Pedro has a career 2.93 ERA, three Cy Youngs and was the most dominant pitcher in a time where the long ball was king.

Where should Pedro Go?   (Here is a short list of teams Pedro should sign with or think about signing with. I tried to focus on teams that have a shot at the postseason and a good fan base.)

MLB Offseason Is A Time For Hope

The 2009 MLB season is over and the New York Yankees are World Series champs by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies. It was an exciting playoffs with it’s share of highlights and controversy.  Replay in the post season was brought up many times as today’s technology is more advanced and can see more then the umpires. The Schedule was also a concern as there were as many days off as games in the fall classic. This all leads to the MLB off season where ever team can improve for 2010.
