Boston Red Sox Offered Toronto Six Pitching Prospects for Roy Halladay?

According to a recent article on MLBTradeRumors.com (seen here), the Red Sox had offered six of their best young pitchers (Justin Masterson, Felix Doubront, Nick Hagadone, Clay Buchholz, Daniel Bard, and Michael Bowden) to the Toronto Blue Jays for their ace, Roy Halladay, before the trade deadline of July 31.

This deal seems incredibly un-Theo Epstein-like. Since arriving in Boston in 2003, Epstein has repeatedly preached prospect development.

Mets-Phillies: David Wright Provides One of the Best Moments of the Season

Yesterday, the Mets were down one run going into the ninth inning.  They were even down to their final out of the game.  All signs pointed to another loss to the Phillies.  Their fifth loss in a row.

Then David Wright came up to bat with a man on, and delivered what could be one of the best wins of the season, belting a two-run, go-ahead home run into the left field stands to put the Mets ahead.

The beginning of the game did not go as well as the end.

"Mr. November," "Mr. Bachelor" Now "Mr. No. 1 In Team Hits" For No. 2

I have let my opinion be known regarding how I feel about the New York Yankees (which is funny, really, considering that the Yankees' provenance developed right in Baltimore, Maryland, 1901). The perennial team of "haves" and World Series titles and the most-prized free agents over the last few decades or so, Team Pinstripes has been an annoyance and the object of my disaffection for years—including when they won the 1996 ALCS over the Baltimore Orioles, 4-1.

Red Sox Weekly Recap: Week 23

It was a rain shortened week for the Boston Red Sox who will make up Friday's rainout Sunday afternoon for a day/night doubleheader against the visiting Tampa Bay Rays.

Jorge Cantu and Others Keep Playoff Dreams Alive for Florida Marlins

Jorge Cantu, Cody Ross, and Gaby Sanchez propelled the Florida Marlins back into the playoff race last night in a big way, launching doubles and homers into the field and stands of Land Shark Stadium in front of an announced crowd of 38,000 who had withstood a two-and-a-half hour rain delay at the start of the game.

Happy Birthday, Nelson Cruz

Today is Nelson Cruzs 37th birthday.  I’m not talking about the slugging outfielder for the Texas Rangers, rather I’m writing about the former Tigers pitcher.

Lowell Spinners Will Have To Wait 'Til Next Year

The Lowell Spinners' 2009 season, and their quest for a New-York Penn League Championship, ended Saturday night in Staten Island, NY, as the Yankees used a five-run second inning to coast to a 5-1 victory, winning the rubber game of a three-game playoff series and sending the Spinners home for the offseason.

The loss ended a record-setting season for Lowell, the Class A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.  The team won the most games in the franchise's 14-year history and several players broke individual franchise records in the process.

Trevor Hoffman Better Than Mariano Rivera?

Mariano Rivera may have 64 fewer lifetime saves than Trevor Hoffman, but he has been the better pitcher overall. Mo has a 0.77 ERA in postseason play while allowing only two home runs in 117 innings. He'll be a Hall of Famer.

Trevor Hoffman has posted 585 career saves, but he has a 57-68 lifetime record. On the other hand Mariano Rivera has 521, saves but has a 70-51 record.

Daniel in the Lion's Den

With this season finally drawing to a close, I have spent most of the past six to eight weeks listening to Mets fans and those who cover the Mets in the media trash over and over and over again the Mets first baseman, Daniel Murphy.

To me it's just unbelievable what extremes these fans take when it comes to blame and evaluation of a players year.

Colorado Rockies' Eight Game Winning Streak Comes to an End

Yorvit Torrealba did his best to be the hero for the second night in a row, but the Colorado Rockies ended up losing in the 10th inning on a bases-loaded walk to Padres pinch-hitter Nick Hundley.
