Purists may cry that baseball is being harmed by the introduction of video replay to the game.

I contend that this is something that was inevitable and will help insure that the correct calls are made.

Football, hockey, and basketball have been using replays to get the right calls for years. How many of us are complaining about that? While some extreme cases have come up (I'm speaking to you, Ed Hochuli), taking a second look at a play has provided the correct result.

On Wednesday, May 27, 2009 Randy Johnson will attempt to attain his 299th victory, bringing him within one game of 300. He would be the 24th pitcher of all time to reach such a milestone. 

The question on many minds this coming Wednesday is not "will Johnson reach 300" it is, "Will Johson be the last to reach 300?"

Continuing on with my Cubs series, I ranked my top ten Cubs third basemen.

This position was a consistent revolving door from the time Ron Santo left until the trade for Aramis Ramirez, and becasue of that there are a lot of old timers on this list.

While the rankings are somewhat subjective, as they always are, I looked closely at each player's 162-game average during his tenure with the Cubs, as well as whether he was a part of any Cubs playoff teams.

I analyze Gil Meche starts as much, maybe more than starts by Zack Greinke.  Gil Meche is my favorite Royal right now and let me tell you, whoever that was wearing his jersey yesterday was NOT Gil Meche.

Actually, it was Gil Meche, but not the Gil Meche we have known for the past two seasons.  It strikes me that Meche is simply out of sync: kind of like you get on a bad day on the golf course.  You know your swing is wrong, but you can't get it fixed. 

We keep talking about how to improve your team through additions, guys who are just chilling on the wire waiting for you. But what if you don't have anyone on your team you want to drop?

That sixth-round Garrett Atkins pickup in the midst of that run on third basemen seemed like the right call at the time. You needed a masher, and David Ortiz still being around at the top of the fourth round for you seemed to good too be true. You drafted them so high, and they've been so good until this year; why would you give up on them?

The Giants can't wait, they cannot go the distance with this team.

The San Francisco Giants offense is pathetic. The time has to be now to make a move for a offensive weapon. The move is long over due.

Their batting average as a team is .250, their slugging percentage is .360, OPS is .669 and their OBP is .309.

With two months of the 2009 MLB Season into the record books, we are coming back to reality as we expected it to be this season.

The great starts of the Florida Marlins and the Toronto Blue Jays caught the eye of the public earlier in the year, questioning if they can stay on top of their respective divisions.

The Marlins went cold for weeks after their hot start, while the Blue Jays suffered a losing streak that has brought them into third place in the AL East.

Speaking of the great East, how about them Rays?

Ryan Braun is quietly having a great season. In 43 games played, he is batting .325 with eight homers and 31 RBI. 

But, those aren't the numbers that impress me. Through Braun's first 300 games as a big leaguer, he has earned a reputation of a free swinger. In each of his first two seasons, he had over 110 strikeouts without drawing more than 42 walks in a season.
