Macho Row Phlashback: 1950 World Series - Game Three

The 1950 Phillies, affectionately nicknamed the Whiz Kids due to their youthful age, clinched the National League pennant on the final day of the regular season.

John Mayberry Jr.: Welcome to the Big Leagues

What a great story. John Mayberry Jr., son of former major leaguer John Mayberry, forcefully un-tied today's Yankees-Phillies game in the fifth inning.

With two men on, Mayberry crushed an off-speed pitch to center field. His dad was in attendance, and with one fist pump in the air, celebrated his sons' great achievement. (Or did he?...Fox showed the same guy for five minutes after the homer and claimed it was his father—only to find out it was a regular old Phillies' fan...way to go, Fox.)

Dear Cardinal Fans: A Letter From a Royal Fan

Note: This article is not meant to provoke, I simply want to hear the opinions/views of the other side. In addition, I wasn't a Royals fan in 1985, so I don't have that experience in my emotional memory, so I'm almost a neutral party in this case

A friend of mine (a Royals' fan) just attended the Royals-Cardinals game at Busch Stadium and received a lot of fairly derisive remarks.

Chicago Cubs Showing Desperation: Alfonso Soriano Back To Second Base?

Callers have almost jokingly proposed it on sports talk radio in Chicago the last couple weeks.

Apparently, Lou Piniella can't come up with anything better.

Rumors are swirling that, for the first time in years, the Cubs will put Alfonso Soriano at second base.

This move would open left field for Micah Hoffpaiur, getting his potent bat into the lineup on a more regular basis since first baseman Derrek Lee isn't going anywhere. Minor league bomber Jake Fox might see a promotion soon as well.

Randy Johnson Retrospective: The Top Five Moments in the Big Unit's Career

When Randy Johnson left the game in the 6th inning last night, a great moment occurred. As I watched history unfold, I started to think about all of the other great moments that he's had in his long career.

I quickly realized that there have been way too many to count, which is fairly common when dealing with someone who's had a career like Randy's.

Chicago Cubs Kerry On Minus Wood and Mark DeRosa

It was a busy off season for Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry to say the least.

He brought in many new faces, most notably Aaron Heilman, Aaron Miles, and Milton Bradley.

He also showed the door to several prominent members of the Cubs organization.  And no, I'm not referring to Jason Marquis.

Kerry Wood, once revered to as "Kid-K", was allowed to sign as a free agent with the Cleveland Indians, while Mark DeRosa was traded to, oddly enough, the Indians.

Detroit Tigers: Bunt Singles (May 23)

I’ve been acquiring all sorts of stats and links, time for a bunt singles update!

Padres-Cubs: Padres Win Seventh Straight Behind Peavy's Dominance

Jake Peavy came out with something to prove, to show why the Padres should keep him, why they can win with him at the helm as a leader.

If General Manager Kevin Towers' eyes weren't open before, they were after the dominant performance by the Padres' ace against the Cubs on Friday night. Peavy gave up just two hits and struck out 10 through six innings of work and got strong pitching from the bullpen as the Padres won their seventh straight, shutting out the Cubs, 4-0.

Mets 5, Red Sox 3: It's Only Technically a Loss

Some might call last night’s game a loss.  The box scores, for one, and the standings.

But a few months from now, looking back, it just might feel like a win.

A week ago we Cardinal fans pretty much thought the sky falling. We could not hit, we could not pitch, and we could not field. We were struggling at every aspect of the game possible.
