Brad Hawpe Making Strong Case for First All-Star Appearance

On Friday night in Pittsburgh, the Colorado Rockies embarked on a 10-game road trip that, in mid-May, would define whether or not they still had a chance at winning the National League West in 2009.

Why Baseball Needs Another Jackie and Pee Wee

Most people know the courageous story of Jackie Robinson. Anyone who does not should read no farther and google the life of a real American hero.

For those who do know about Jackie's life, you probably also know about Harold "Pee Wee" Reese. Pee Wee was the Dodgers captain, 10-time All Star, and winner of seven league championships while the Dodgers were still in Brooklyn.

Despite his Hall of Fame achievements, his accolades on the field will forever pale in comparison to his contribution to our fragile nation in 1947.

Can Atkins Turn It Around?

In the 2000 amateur draft, the Colorado Rockies selected UCLA first baseman Garrett Atkins in the fifth round.

With Todd Helton firmly entrenched at that position for the Rockies, Atkins converted to third base in AA in 2002 and continued there in AAA before being getting called up early in the 2005 season. He went on to finish fourth in the Rookie-of-the-Year voting that year after posting a .287/.347/.426 batting line with 13 HR and 87 RBI in 519 ABs.

5 Players You Do Not Want On Your Fantasy Team

Well today I am going to look at five individual players that you should consider dropping or trading as of now. There are obviously more than five struggling players, but these are five individual choices of mine. There will be a slideshow like this every other week which will run down the five worst players of the week, but here are five players you do not want on your fantasy team as of today.

There will also be a Top 5 regarding the Best Players coming out on Monday.

Delgado Debacle Could Mean F-Mart Is Imminent

Carlos Delgado’s injured hip doesn’t seem to be getting better, and at some point this weekend, the Mets will be deciding whether or not to put the lefty slugger on the Disabled List. Delgado hasn’t appeared in a game since May 10, and the Mets’ bench has been tested heavily because of it.

The Mets have played in two extra inning games this week, and they have emptied their bench twice. It doesn’t make sense to me why they won’t just give Delgado some rest. Before the season started, the guy to promote would be a piece of cake.

MLB All-Star Ballot: 2009 Picks

It's about half-way to the All-Star game, and balloting started ridiculously early a couple of weeks ago. Here's who should be tabbed All-Stars.

I follow the rules (there must be one member from each team and 32 overall players), which is why there are some snubs, who should be All-Stars. An asterisk* denotes injury which usually relegates a player to snub.

Casey at the Bat | M's Draft Prospects: Pick No. 2

When the Mariners lost their ninth of the last 10 games last night at the bat of Texas first baseman Chris Davis, I began to wonder.

Texas has another one of these guys? Big bats from the left-hand side, they don’t grow on trees, generally, but perhaps the growing season and crops available are different in Arlington.

Opponents' Weakness May Give the Pirates an Opening

Call it the series of the Midgets. But the Pirates finally have some "easy" opponents for a change.

The 14-20 Pirates will play their next 10 games against teams with three of the worst records in the majors. The Colorado Rockies are 13-20. The Washington Nationals are even worse. The Chicago White Sox are a tad better. No team has a lower won-loss percentage than the Nats, and only four more teams are worse than the other two, and not much worse at that.
