In case you hadn’t noticed, the Detroit Tigers offense has had its struggles this season.

Major League Baseball has been overrun with youth in recent years, and the barrage isn't letting up in 2015. So if you like high drama in your awards races, the Rookie of the Year is the one for you.

And with the first two months of the season just about over, it's time to check where things stand.

We're going to rank the top five Rookie of the Year contenders in the American and National League, respectively. Simple enough, but understand that there are two ground rules at play:

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Matt Adams left in the fifth inning of Tuesday night's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks after suffering a right quadricep injury.

Adams Hurts Quad

The Cardinals are currently categorizing Adams' injury as a quad strain. He came up limping when rounding first on a fifth-inning double, and he was replaced by Mark Reynolds, who pinch ran and took over at first base. 

The Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers didn’t wait until the trade deadline to make a notable move during the 2015 season.

Fernandez to Begin Extended Spring Training

Bob Nightengale of USA Today noted Tuesday that “Jose Fernandez will begin extended spring on Monday for #Marlins w hopes of returning by All Star break.”

When Alberto Callaspo was a late scratch for Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, speculation was rampant that a trade was in the works. It turns out the rumors were correct. Callaspo has reportedly been traded to the Dodgers in a six-player deal.
