There are people, and there are legends. You know which one this guy is.

With a beer in one hand, the Harvard-reppin’ fan snagged a bat that flew into the stands during a game between the St. Paul Saints and the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on Friday.

Other than saving the folks around him, the best part was that he didn’t even spill his brew. That’s what the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball is all about.

Even though it isn't emphasized as much in baseball, the draft is important in building winning teams. Since it takes so long for draftees to reach the majors in most cases, it's hard to evaluate them immediately after the fact.

Pitchers to Draft

Corey Kluber, Cleveland Indians ($11,300)

Listening to the men in charge and the player, the easy conclusion is Troy Tulowitzki will remain the long-suffering Colorado Rockies shortstop. 

There have been some eye-opening starts to the baseball season this year at both the major league and minor league levels, but Tampa Bay Rays starter Blake Snell takes the cake.

The left-hander has rattled off 46 straight scoreless innings to start the year, as he appears to be the latest in a long line of homegrown starting pitchers to come through the Tampa Bay Rays farm system.

He's not the only one turning heads down at the farm, though, as there are more minor leaguers putting together some impressive stat lines, prospect or otherwise.

After getting hit in the mask not once but twice Friday night against the San Diego Padres, Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal was forced to exit the divisional matchup. The Dodgers have placed him on the seven day concussion DL.

A year ago, Prince Fielder looked finished. Finito. Spent. And any other synonym for the word "done."

But as anybody who watched the Texas Rangers veteran first baseman in action on Friday night against the New York Yankees will tell you, rumors of Fielder's demise were greatly exaggerated.

Much was expected of Mat Latos after he joined the Miami Marlins. So far, Latos has fallen way short of those expectations, and now he's destined for a spell on the disabled list.
