The San Diego Padres sent starting pitcher James Shields to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for two minor league players on Saturday. One of those is right-handed pitcher Erik Johnson, according to Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune. 

This week we said goodbye to some big MLB names, albeit some for a longer stretch of time than others. But none were more publicized than that of Cleveland Indians outfielder Marlon Byrd.

Wednesday, the league announced that Byrd would be suspended 162 games after his second positive test for performance-enhancing drugs.

His was not the first positive test for PEDs this season. So yet again, it sparked debate as to whether MLB’s policies and punishments are successfully legislating PED use out of the game.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera exited Friday's game against the Chicago White Sox with a back injury. It is unclear when he will be able to return.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira has an articular cartilage tear in his right knee, which could require surgery if the knee doesn't respond to treatment. He left Friday's game against the Baltimore Orioles and was placed on the disabled list Saturday.

O'Day Placed on 15-Day DL

According to a report by CBS Baltimore, O'Day was placed on the 15-day disabled list in what is being described as a right hamstring strain.

The Chicago White Sox (29-25) are fighting to get back to the top of the division, winning two in a row heading into Friday’s road matchup with the Detroit Tigers (25-28) following a season-high seven-game losing streak.

Following a high-scoring four-game home-and-home series against the San Diego Padres, the Seattle Mariners (31-22) will travel to Arlington for the first of three games against the Texas Rangers (31-22) on Friday.
