According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Blue Jays are believed to have interest in signing relievers Matt Guerrier and Jesse Crain.

Guerrier was not offered arbitration by the Twins, so he is now a free agent. In 2010, a campaign where he made $3.15 million, experts peg him to make no more than four to five million next season.

This sure got ugly, didn't it? Who could have seen this coming?

The Yankees arguing about money with their captain. Everybody knows money doesn't mean anything to the Yankees, just get him signed already Cashman!

Funny thing is if money really doesn't mean anything to the Yankees it makes signing Jeter long term even worse. When you take money out of the equation it comes down to an even more precious commodity in baseball: playing time.

There are a lot of young pitchers with potential upside in baseball today.

While the AL East is generally not a good place to go searching for such pitchers, the Toronto Blue Jays’ Brett Cecil could be an exception to the rule. He was solid in his rookie campaign and it could be just the beginning.

To be clear, in no way do I think the New York Yankees and Derek Jeter will part ways. He’s been the face of the franchise for over a decade, free from controversy, and a consistent performer.

The Yankees want and need him back. Only Miguel Tejeda and Orlando Cabrera would be adequate free agent replacements if you ask me. Followed by Jhonny Peralta and Juan Uribe, if they want to get a bit younger at the position.

No it’s not Jeter, Rivera or Pettitte and as far as I know Cliff Lee has never been a Yankee so who could it be?

As I type with complete and utter nausea, the player is Sergio Mitre.

No, this is not a joke, as the Yankees have signed Mitre for another year at $900,000 to bring his talents back to the Bronx.

What talents convinced the Yankees to make this decision?

Derek Jeter and the Yankees are still locked in one of the strangest contract negotiations in recent memory.

Given the decline that the Yankee shortstop experienced in 2010, the line drawn in the sand by the Yankees is pretty fair. Paying $15 million a year for a player who's going to hit .270 with limited range in the infield is pretty generous.

And right now, it's not very likely that Jeter is going to get a better offer from anybody else.

But what if the Yankees decide to just let him go? That would leave them with $15-20 million to spend.
