Matt Wieters Scheduled to Join the Baltimore Orioles on Friday

The wait is over. In an interview with Gary Thorne and Buck Martinez during Tuesday night’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays, Orioles President Andy MacPhail announced that top prospect Matt Wieters will be making his major league debut on Friday, May 29, when the Detroit Tigers visit Baltimore to face the Orioles.

“We are planning on Friday to introduce him [Wieters] to Major League Baseball right here at Camden Yards against the Tigers,” MacPhail coyly announced to a stunned pair of broadcasters.

Torre has the Dodgers (31-15) keeping a steady pace ahead of the surging San Diego Padres. Even with the aid of a 10-game winning streak, the Padres (23-22) have only crept within 7 ½ games of the Dodgers.

National League Power Rankings: Top Five

1. Los Angeles Dodgers: 1st Place, 30-14

The Good: The Dodgers pitching staff has been unbelievable top to bottom this year, and the results have showed.  Their starters have lost just seven games compared to winning 14 and their ERA is 3.57.

Chad Billingsley (6-1, 2.51 ERA, 63 K) is an early Cy Young candidate and has cemented himself as a top five pitcher in the National League.  As good as their pitching has been, the offense has been just as good.

Top 7 Depressingly Cheap Baseball Cards

The greatest day of the month as an 11-year-old was coming home to a new Beckett Baseball Card Monthly in your mailbox.  Who was on the cover?  What went up?  What went down?  Who’s the Hottest and Coldest player?  What lies will readers tell in Autograph Experiences?  The worst lie, though, was not ever being told that “going up” really means nothing, and what a card is “worth” was quite different than what was in the Beckett.  Never is that more evident than if you cruise EBay

Everything Goes Red Sox' Way in Three-Game Sweep of Toronto; Mets Are Up Next

The Red Sox had to at least have a feeling that good fortune was on their side heading into their first series with the Toronto Blue Jays when they found out they wouldn’t have to face Roy Halladay.
It turns out that it was, as just about everything the Red Sox could ask for went right.
