"Vintage Lester dominates Orioles" as Red Sox Edge Out Baltimore, 2-1

"Vintage Lester dominates Orioles" read the headline after Sunday's 2-1 Red Sox victory over Baltimore.  While headlines are known for hyperbole, by definition, Jon Lester's third and best start of 2009 was vintage.

Phil Humber: Baseball is a Cruel Game

When the Mets drafted Phil Humber back in 2004, I was thrilled. Even though my baseball knowledge was still in a prehistoric state, I had read enough about Humber to get excited about the prospects of the Mets drafting him.

Yankee Stadium: A Day Late, Hundreds of Dollars Short

The new Yankee Stadium opened with ceremony, and a 10-2 loss to Cleveland.

I was hoping to get to the opening of the new Yankee Stadium this week. I tried to call in a few favors, but the tickets never came through.

Fuggedaboutit!

I’m not the godfather.

With a slim wallet, and the cheap seats going for $200 and up, scalping was out of the question.

Instead, I took the day off from work, and saw the game on TV...for free.

The Red Sox Know How to Manage "Injuries"

Dustin Pedroia, you say you are experiencing cold-like symptoms?

Boom!  15-day DL.

Jason Varitek, you say that you don't feel quite like you did when were 31 years old?

See ya!  15-day DL.

So, they aren't that careful with their personnel.

But, they are very careful indeed.

And one reason they can do that is because they currently have as much depth as any organization.

If Drew, Ellsbury, or Bay go down for a short period of time, Rocco can take over.

Milwaukee Brewers: Good News, Bad News

Good news:  The Brewers' fourth starter, Braden Looper, is looking good so far this season.  Milwaukee won both games he started, and he's got nine strikeouts in 11 innings pitched.

Bad news:  The Brewers' first, second, and third starters, aren't looking so hot.  In a 7-6 loss to the Reds, Yovani Gallardo earned every Cincinnati run.  Jeff Suppan's ERA is a shade under 13 in seven innings pitched.  Manny Parra has been mediocre also, allowing eight runs in his first two starts.

Noise Makers Plus Baseball Equals Trash

What do you think of when you ponder the game of baseball? Hot dogs, beer, soda, peanuts, cracker jack, and the crack of the bat? Yep, sounds about right.

How about drums? whistles? thunder-slapping? Cmon.

MLB needs to jump on this garbage asap. There is NO place at a major league ball park for artificial noisemakers like drums and thundersticks.
