Member of Royals Grounds Crew Gets Swallowed Up in Tarp, Goes Down Hard

The rain was coming down during Thursday’s opening contest of the American League Division Series between the Houston Astros and Kansas City Royals.

There was a rain delay in the top of the third, so the Royals grounds crew had to roll out the tarp. One guy almost got eaten alive.

The first postseason baseball game in Canada since 1993 did not go according to plan, as the Texas Rangers knocked off the Toronto Blue Jays 5-3 to take a 1-0 lead in the American League Division Series. 

Yovani Gallardo was tremendous for the Rangers, breezing through the potent Toronto lineup early and limiting the damage in the fourth and fifth innings before giving way to the bullpen. The right-hander allowed four hits and two earned runs in five innings.

The snakebitten franchise that hasn't won a World Series since 1908 took the first step toward remedying that drought Wednesday with a 4-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates in the National League Wild Card Game. Ace Jake Arrieta put the team on his back and only allowed four hits while striking out 11 during a complete-game shutout.

The Pittsburgh Pirates may have gone down in the 2015 NL Wild Card Game without scoring a single run, but they didn't do so without a fight. Both benches cleared in the seventh inning Wednesday night when Pirates reliever Tony Watson hit Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta with a pitch.

No punches were thrown in the melee, but multiple players from both sides were seen pushing and shoving.
