Opening Day was a big day for baseball fans, but it was an extremely special day for young Ainsley Williams.

March 31, 2014 was a day the young girl will never forget. The three-year-old had been battling cancer of the soft tissue since she was one. For 22 weeks, Ainsley and her family made 16-hour round trips from Marquette, Mich., to Detroit for treatment.

The Boston Red Sox weren't the only ones getting new rings on Friday.

Back in 2011, two Red Sox fans—Cody Anderson and Shannon Armitage—met online. Anderson and Armitage hit it off, which led to a great story. The two fans got married at Fenway Park on April 4, 2014, which is the same day that the team received their 2013 World Series rings.

Los Angeles Dodgers star center fielder Matt Kemp is back in the lineup for Friday's home opener against the San Francisco Giants after recovering from a potentially career-threatening left ankle injury.

The Boston Red Sox are celebrating their 2013 World Series championship during their home opener on Friday afternoon against the Milwaukee Brewers, and their championship rings look pretty sharp.

While Boston opted for a more streamlined design, the Red Sox were able to honor the team's three championships in the past decade on the side of the ring.

The outside of the ring is simple, but the inside of it has a pretty awesome inscription:

In 2013, Fernandez was sensational. The right-hander went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. His numbers ranked among the best in the National League, and he ran away with the NL Rookie of the Year award. 

With their opening series of the 2014 MLB season taking place in nearby Baltimore, the Boston Red Sox made the short trip to Washington, D.C., on Tuesday and were welcomed to the White House by President Barack Obama to celebrate their 2013 World Series title.
