Andy Pettitte Will Retire at End of 2013 Season

Andy Pettitte has pitched in the major leagues for 18 years, but his career is coming to a close. The veteran pitcher announced that he would retire at the end of the season on Friday, per the Yankees' Twitter feed:

Brandon Phillips Forces Jonathan Villar into a 'Butt Slide'

In the bottom of the first inning against Houston, Cincinnati Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips pulled a cruel, cruel trick on Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar when he forced him to slide directly into his butt while protecting second base.

As if his head placement wasn't embarrassing enough, Villar was called out on the play.

The Washington Nationals showed solidarity with victims of the tragic Navy Yard shooting by wearing Navy ballcaps during batting practice today. It was a touching gesture that shows the Nationals are standing behind all those affected by this incident.  

The hats were hand-delivered by a Navy Admiral.
