Cardinals Exercise Option On Albert Pujols(and In Other News The Earth Is Round)

I hope you are sitting down when you read this because it might shock you: The Cardinals picked up their option for Albert Pujols.

The fact that this "no-brainer of the century" transaction even made the headlines on ESPN.com made me laugh. After all, what are they going to tell us next, that we're in an economic downturn?

Roy Halladay, Hats Off To You: Pitcher Throws a No-Hitter in Playoff Debut

Roy Halladay has already had a pretty impressive career, he's won a Cy Young award, thrown a perfect game, and played in seven All Star games. The only thing that Halladay didn't have on his resume was playoff experience. Coming into today Halladay had pitched in more games (320) than any other active pitcher who had never pitched in the postseason.

Today Halladay finally got to pitch in the playoffs, and he made the most of it to say the least....

Roy Halladay Dominates Cincinnati Reds: 'Red Doctober' Opens With 4-0 No-Hitter

Roy "Doc" Halladay had to wait 12-plus years to get his first taste of the postseason.  He'll have to wait a little longer to give up his first hit.  One doesn't think that he'll mind the wait.

Roy Halladay Postseason No-Hitter: 10 Reasons Don Larsen's Was More Impressive

Coming into the 2010 MLB postseason, everyone wanted to know if Roy Halladay was ready to pitch on the big stage. The real question turned out to be if the stage was ready for him. Roy Halladay stepped on the mound and put on a historical performance by completing the second no-hitter in postseason history, leading his team to a 4-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the NLDS.

The only other no-hitter in baseball postseason history was Don Larsen's 1956 World Series Game 5 perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers.

MLB News: New York Mets Fire Omar Minaya, Jerry Manuel, What's Next?

Heading into the 2010 season, this is a team that many had pegged to compete with the Philadelphia Phillies for the division title.

It's safe to say that a few things went wrong.

After finishing 79-83, the Mets are now coming off their second straight disappointing season and are a team in crisis. Sure, the dismissals of General Manager Omar Minaya and Manager Jerry Manuel will appease some fans, but it certainly won't solve any of the team's woes.

Jerry Manuel, Omar Minaya Fired: New York Mets Waste No Time Making Changes

Just a day after the New York Mets' season ended, the team has already begun to make some major changes.

It was announced today that Jerry Manuel will not have his contract renewed for next season.

Manuel never managed to have much success in New York. Over two-and-a-half years, he had a record of 204-213. This gave him a .489 winning percentage.

Philadelphia Phillies 2010: A Long Strange Trip to the Top

In the parlance of that iconic psychedelic rock band, The Grateful Dead, the 2010 Philadelphia Phillies went on a long strange trip that was marred by a slew of injuries.  Of course, GM Ruben Amaro, skipper Charlie Manuel, and the rest of the team kept on Truckin', and they somehow enter this week's playoffs with the best record in baseball.

Ken Macha To Be Fired as Milwaukee Brewers Manager

According to sources from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Ken Macha has managed his last game for the Milwaukee Brewers. His option for 2011 will not be picked up, and he'll be relieved of his duties on Monday.

Macha has managed the Brewers to back-to-back losing seasons after the team made the playoffs in 2008.

San Francisco Giants Finally Do It

It took until the last game of the season, but they did it.  Now, it’s the same as if they’d won the division by 10 games, so bring on the Braves!

It feels like it’s been more than six years since the last time the Giants made the playoffs.  We had to put up with some pretty bad seasons from 2005 through 2008, but it’s all worth it now.
