Minnesota Twins Trade Carlos Gomez for JJ Hardy

The Twins and Brewers have reportedly agreed to a trade that would send Carlos Gomez to Milwaukee in exchange for JJ Hardy.

Tim Lincecum Smokes Weed: Time to Cue the Outraged Media

Cy Young award winner Tim Lincecum was cited for misdemeanor marijuana possession last weekend in southern Washington State.

Washington State Patrol reported smelling marijuana when Lincecum initially rolled down the window, and upon inquiring about the smell Lincecum produced 3.3 grams and a pipe.

I just want to tell those members of the media who are about to explode: its OK.

Life will go on.

Look, the 25-year old Lincecum went to Liberty High School in Renton, WA just a few miles away from me and was also just a grade in front of me.

Bobby Abreu Re-Signs with LA Angels: One Big Free Agent Down, Three To Go

The most exciting event in baseball happened in the last 24 hours.

That's right, Bobby Abreu resigned with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim!

Let's face it, I care more about my dog's opinions on philosophy than the achievements of the New York Yankees. Congrats to them on a great year and all, but I can't wait to beat them next season.

On the other hand, Abreu signing a two-year extension for $19 million with a club option for 2012 is truly thrilling, especially for Angels fans.

Kansas City Royals Trade Mark Teahen To The Chicago White Sox

Mark Teahen has reportedly been traded to the Chicago White Sox. The Kansas City Royals will receive second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields.

Getz stole 25 bases in only 107 games in 2009, while Fields hit 23 home runs in only 100 games in 2007. Both players are currently 26 years old.

Teahen hit 12 home runs and drove in 50 while hitting .271 last year. He split time between first, second and third base, as well as right field. He will begin Spring Training as the Sox starting third baseman.

Jamie McCourt's Request To Rejoin Dodgers Denied by LA Court

A Superior Court Commissioner ruled that there is no state law to give back Jamie McCourt her role as CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“From an employment analysis, there’s no law that would support the court reinstating an employee,” said court commissioner Scott Gordon on Thursday morning.

Her husband, Frank McCourt, fired Jamie last month on the grounds that she was having an inappropriate relationship with an employee and was also doing a poor job as CEO.

Mark Teahen Traded To The White Sox?

According to a New York Daily News report, the White Sox have agreed to trade second baseman Chris Getz and third baseman Josh Fields to the Kansas City Royals for Mark Teahen. The deal has not yet been finalized.

I'm going to focus on Chris Getz and Mark Teahen in this commentary as Josh Fields has become an after-thought for the Sox. The former first round pick has struggled to make contact at the major league level and doesn't appear to be in their long term plans.

What Does Ted Lilly's Surgery Mean to The 2010 Chicago Cubs?

A whisper leaked out of Arizona on Wednesday that Chicago Cubs' left-hander Ted Lilly underwent arthroscopic shoulder surgery on Tuesday and isn't expected to return until April.

Great. [Collective sigh from Chicago's North Side.]

Here we go again.

So how does the knowledge that Lilly's now expected to likely miss the first month of the season impact the Cubs as they approach this important winter?

Let's examine a few scenarios.

Ted Lilly Had Surgery? Yesterday? On His Throwing Shoulder?

Reports are flying out of Arizona, where the Chicago Cubs are having their first winter management meetings with new owner Tom Ricketts, that apparently 2009 hasn't bottomed out just yet.

Apparently, the team's only All Star might be a question mark to begin the 2010 season.

That's right folks, it appears that Ted Lilly had arthroscopic surgery on his left (pitching) shoulder yesterday.  The Cubs aren't releasing a lot of details, obviously, but they did say they hope Lilly's ready "within the month of April."

Jamie Quirk Named New Houston Astros Bullpen Coach

The Houston Astros have named Jamie Quirk their new bullpen coach, according to senior director of digital media Alyson Footer.

Quirk was the bench coach for the Colorado Rockies from 2003-08 before joining the Cincinnati Reds last season as a scout.

“Jamie has a wealth of experience and comes highly recommended,” Astros general manager Ed Wade told Footer on Wednesday, Nov. 4. “He had a long playing career and spent 15 seasons as a Major League coach. He’s another solid addition to our staff.”
