Brad Mills Named New Houston Astros Manager

It’s official: Brad Mills is the new Houston Astros skipper.

According to MLB.com’s Brian McTaggart, Mills was named the new manager on Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 27, and his hiring became official at a news conference held at 3 p.m. CT at Minute Maid Park.

“There is no doubt in my mind we’ve made an outstanding selection,” general manager Ed Wade told Houston Chronicle’s Jose De Jesus Ortiz. “We’re working toward being a champion. This is a huge step to getting good and staying good.”

Mark McGwire Named Cardinals Hitting Coach

After Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa has reportedly signed a multi-year contract to return as the Cardinals skipper next year, St. Louis's front-office decided not to bring back hitting coach, Hal McRae.

Mark McGwire was named McRae's replacement by the Cardinal's front-office. McGwire's hiring would be his first return to baseball since 2001.

LaRussa's extension has not been officially announced but he is expected to make his return to the Cardinals sometime this week.

Manny's Second Act(a): Cleveland Indians Hire Former Nationals Skipper


The Cleveland Indians interviewed Bobby Valentine and minor league manager Torey Lovullo for their open manager position. But at the end of the day, they felt Manny Acta was the right man for the job.

According to SI.com’s Jon Heyman , Acta has been hired by the Indians to be their next manager. The Indians signed Acta to a three-year deal with a club option for 2013.

After several investigations by construction companies, the concrete ramps at the new Yankee Stadium have been found to have deep cracks. The new state-of-the-art home of the Yankees has only been open for about seven months. The cost of building George Stienbrenner's new palace cost the Yankees a total of $1.5 billion.

The New York Times has reported that both the Yankees are trying to see if there was anything wrong with the installation of the ramps or their design, when the stadium was first built.

San Diego Padres Hire Jed Hoyer As GM


I guess the farewell lunch the Boston Red Sox held for Jed Hoyer today kind of gave it away huh?

According to various sources, the San Diego Padres have hired Red Sox Assistant GM Jed Hoyer to be their new GM. Hoyer replaces Kevin Towers, who was fired at the beginning of the month.

Hoyer joined the Red Sox front office at age 28, where he helped to build Boston’s rosters and assisted in contract negotiations.

Report: Jed Hoyer to Be Announced as the New San Diego Padres GM

The San Diego Padres may have hired their new general manager, according to reports out of San Diego, as well as Sports Illustrated .

Former Red Sox senior vice president and assistant GM Jed Hoyer is reportedly the man for the job and the announcement is expected at a press conference in San Diego later today.

ESPN's Peter Gammons, via Twitter , reported that the Red Sox had a goodbye lunch for Hoyer earlier today.

Rockies Skipper Jim Tracy Named NL Manager Of The Year By Sporting News

Sporting News has named Colorado Rockies manager the 2009 NL Manager of the Year.

A panel of 22 MLB managers voted and selected Tracy for the first Manager of the Year award in his career.

Under Tracy, the Rockies went 74-42 since taking over and ended the regular season  32-games over .500 and earned a Wild Card spot.

Giving this award to Tracy appeared to be a no brainer for anyone who payed attention to the Rockies since Tracy took over on May 29th after the club dismissed Clint Hurdle.
