Wright and Beltran Lead Mets to Win the First West Coast Series

The Mets are going for a four-game sweep of the San Francisco Giants tonight with Mike Pelfrey being opposed by Matt Cain.

It certainly has been an eventful week for the Mets who have seen Carlos Delgado put on the DL yesterday, which puts a strain on the remainder of the middle lineup as well as a need for a first baseman.

Jose Reyes has not played since Wednesday afternoon with a stiff calf muscle that started in New York but was made worse by the cross-country trip on Wednesday evening.

New York Mets: Blazin' Amazins

These last few weeks have been great ones for the New York Mets and their fans.  The Metropolitan's have won 10 of their last 12.

Many say the team is on fire.  That is true, but individual Mets are on fire, too.  With that, as of now, the New York Mets are the "Blazin' Amazins."

If the MLB All Star Game Were to Happen Now, These Would Be Your Guys

We're already almost halfway to the 2009 MLB All star game. I know, time flies huh?

About one quarter of the way into the season, a lot of players, young and old, are putting up some eye-popping numbers. There's little doubt that some of the current league leaders won't stay there, but I'd like to recognize some of the top performers this far into a young season.

For this piece I'm going to stick with position players.

The Mets Are Heading Out West and May Be Without Some Key Players

The Mets left last night for their west coast trip, which starts in San Francisco tonight. This will be a big test for them, as they are facing the Giants and Dodgers, both pretty much undefeated at home this season.

Carlos Delgado and his lingering hip injury is the primary question mark entering the road trip. Delgado has missed several games the past two weeks and Jerry Manuel is openly pessimistic about the status of Delgado's return.

David Wright: Steal Attempts and Triples Are Now His Game

CitiField is not a hitters park—no cheap home runs at all, and David Wright has been running instead of slugging even though two of his three home runs were hit at CitiField.

Entering last night's game, Wright had only 10 career triples. With his triple last night, his total is now 13.

With his caught stealing last night, he now has five stolen bases and six caught stealings.  This is not a good percentage, but it does show that he is trying to put himself in the best possible scoring position.

The Mets Offense so Far in 2009

The Mets have an incredible lineup full of speedsters and sluggers, and in two cases, namely David Wright and Carlos Beltran, they have both speed and power as evidenced by both of them being members of the 30/30 club.

Jerry Manuel does little to change the lineup on any given day other than the pitcher and the catcher in the event of a day game following a night game.

Random Proof That Major League Baseball Has Entered Bizarro World!

First, start by taking all of your magazines with MLB predictions and burn them.

Next, grab your television, yank the cord from its socket, and throw it out a second-story window.

If you feel that is too harsh, then simply leave it on the street with a sign that reads “take me.”

David Wright: Can You Please Swing the Bat?

Today, we saw another example of a game that got away. I am not as upset at the fact that the Mets lost as I am about how they lost. I am going to place the blame on the shoulders of one of the youngsters who is supposed to be the new leader and spokesman for this team, and that is their third basemen, David Wright.
