Felix Hernandez Gives Mariners Another Gem Performance!

— Michael Saunders’ three-run homer helped Seattle to a 5-1 win Saturday night at Safeco Field.

The Seattle Mariners cruised through a typically tidy game — getting quality pitching from Felix Hernandez and a minimal amount of offense — when something out of the ordinary broke out.

Nearly a week’s worth of runs by the Mariners.

Troy Glaus Secures Win in Ninth; Braves Up 1 1/2 Games in NL East

When the Atlanta Braves signed Troy Glaus this past offseason, they hoped for an offensive spark that has been lacking at first base in recent years; they got much more than they bargained for.

Glaus has been stellar this year, and last night was no exception.  Glaus hit a home run off Robinson Tejada on an 0-2 count to give the Braves a 5-4 victory over the tough-luck Royals Saturday night.

Philadelphia Phillies Crush, Then Crumble in Loss to Minnesota Twins

I’m sorry folks, I think I jinxed this one. With former Phillie Jim Thome at the plate in the ninth inning with the Phillies up by five runs, I said to my dad and brother, “I wouldn’t mind if he hit a home run right here. We would still be up by three and I don’t see us losing this game.

"Plus, I kinda want Thome to have more homers than that lying steroid user Rafael Palmeiro.”

New York Yankees Pound Mike Pelfrey for 5-3 Victory Over Mets

Streak Over for Mets as Long Balls Hurt Mike Pelfrey

NEW YORK-- Mike Pelfrey, for the second consecutive start, didn't have his greatest stuff. His fastball was flat and his sinker had no bite, as the Mets lost the battle of long balls.

The game got off to a roaring start for the Mets as Jose Reyes lead off with a home run off Phil Hughes.

Pelfrey though, would give the run right back in the first, as he gave up two singles and a run-scoring double play to begin the inning, tying the game at 1-1.

The Mets got a leadoff single from Jason Bay in the second, but Chris Carter hit a double play.

Mets-Yankees: Home Runs Help Yankees End Losing Streak

The Yankees were not only looking for a win to end their losing streak, they also hoped to revitalize their recent sluggish offensive performances.

One night after being shutout for the third time this season, the Yankees used a pair of two-run home runs to power past the Mets, 5-3, Saturday afternoon at Yankee Stadium.

With the win the Yankees ended a season-high four-game losing streak. The Mets lost for only the second time in 11 interleague games this season.

Stephen Strasburg a Victim of No Run Support

Stephen Strasburg had another excellent quality start last night in Washington but was a victim of no run support in the 2-1, 11-inning loss to the White Sox. The Nationals didn’t score a run until Strasburg made his exit after the top of the seventh.

The Nationals had defeated the Pirates 5-2 and the Indians 9-5 in his two previous starts. Strasburg had issues with the mound in the game with the Indians which probably caused him to walk five batters. He struck out 14 while walking none against the Pirates and struck out 10 while walking none against the White Sox.

New York Yankees' Bats Still Missing As Offense Falters in Defeat To Mets

Seriously, how much does that picture piss you off?

For the third straight night the Yankees offense was a no show as the Yanks fell to the Mets 4-0 at the stadium. This time it was lefty Hisanori Takahashi who shut the Yankees down, holding them scoreless over six innings. His final inning was his roughest.

Boston Red Sox Bludgeon Los Angeles Dodgers in Manny's Return to Fenway

Manny Ramirez returned to Fenway, welcomed with cheers and boos in an eventual Red Sox win.

Make it a Great Eight for Mets as They Shut Out Yankees

NEW YORK-- Now we can say that the Mets are an elite team, and a force to be reckoned with. After winning six consecutive road games against teams that they should beat in the Orioles and Indians, the Mets not only went into Yankee Stadium and beat the Yankees for their eighth straight win and seventh on the road trip, they shut them out.

Almost everyone was predicting the Mets to lose this opening game, and that starter Hisanori Takahashi would get rocked hard. Neither of those happened, as Takahashi for the second time this season, shut the Yankees out over six innings.
