2010 MLB Draft Results: Twins Bolster Minor League System

Originally published at TwinsMVB.com .

The Twins certainly didn’t stray from their organizational philosophy in this most recent MLB Draft. Holding the twenty-first overall selection in the Rule 4 Draft, Minnesota made several selections of players that fill a mold that Twins’ fans have grown familiar with. Here is a brief run-down of Minnesota’s first three picks.

21st pick: Alex Wimmers, RHP, Ohio State (6′2”, 195 lbs)

Stephen Strasburg's Debut: Mr. Relevant's First Game Breathes Life into Majors

Stephen Strasburg’s name won’t be added to the long list of can’t-miss prospects who have missed.  Following his historic performance in his Major League debut Tuesday, the sports world is abuzz over his 99-mph heat and devastating slurve.

Strasburg’s dazzling debut was arguably the best moment in the history of the Washington Nationals.  It was a polarizing moment in the 2010 MLB season, which lacks compelling story lines even in mid-June.  It justified the national media’s hype and made the Nats’ a franchise worth covering.

Pelfrey Dominant, Davis Wins It For Mets Over Padres

NEW YORK-- When will the Mets ever lose another home game? It looked like they were on their way to one tonight, but after nine strong innings from Mike Pelfrey, Ike Davis won it in the 11th.

The Padres, entering the Mets' home with the NL's best record, took an early lead. Three batters in to the game, the Padres took a 1-0 lead on an RBI double by Adrian Gonzalez.

The Padres wouldn't score another run for the rest of the game. Just maybe that would be enough for them to win.

This Just In: Stephen Strasburg Is Good at Baseball.

It cannot be overstated how amazing the debut of phenom Stephen Strasburg was.

Personally, I've never seen anything like it, and I seriously doubt that you have either.

With so much hype surrounding the young man, it seemed impossible for him to possibly live up to it, especially in his first big league outing. But live up to it he did, perhaps even making it seem like he wasn't getting enough hype.

Coming Of Ace: Stephen Strasburg Earns Win, Strikes Out 14 in MLB Debut

"Remember where you are so you remember where you were."–Nationals radio announcer Charlie Slowes after Tuesday night's game

Wow. Just wow.

What more is there to say about Stephen Strasburg's debut?

The buzz surrounding the right-handed fireballer reached historic levels before he even signed a professional contract. He was the unquestioned No. 1 pick in the draft last year, jumping to the top of a prospect class that was far more talented than this year's.

Javier Vazquez Hurls a Gem as New York Yankees Avoid Sweep

Yankees Happy to Leave Toronto

The Yankees were happy to leave Toronto after their first visit with the Blue Jays over the weekend.

This series provided a lot to think about in regards to what the Yankees are dealing with regarding strengths and issues.

Losing the first two games was making the Yankees look like has-beens. Thanks to Javier Vazquez’s impressive performance the Yankees avoided getting swept on Sunday.

Watching Saturday’s 14 innings proved that the Yankee pitching is pretty sturdy and continued to add more worries about the Yankee bats.

San Deigo Padres-Philadelphia Phillies: Blows Exchanged, Friars Win Knockout

Adrian Gonzalez homered and drove in three runs and Chase Headley put together a four-hit afternoon as San Diego beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-5 on pinch-hitter Oscar Salazar's two-out infield single in the 10th inning, part of a 16-hit outburst by the Padres.

Yankees-Blue Jays: Four-Run Eighth Helps Yankees Salvage Series Finale

After only scoring three runs over the first two games of the series, New York’s four-run outburst in the eighth inning lifted the Yankees to a 4-3 win over Toronto Sunday afternoon at Rogers Centre.

Niese, Davis Lead Mets To Win Over Marlins at Citi Field

NEW YORK: Don't worry about the Mets when they play at Citi Field, that's not their problem. The Mets continued their home dominance on Saturday, beating the Marlins 6-1 to improve to an MLB best 21-9 at home.

The man who had been slumping for a while, Ike Davis, led the charge with his first career four-hit game, including two doubles, an RBI, and three runs scored.

The effort was in support of 23-year-old left-hander Jon Niese, who was coming back from a hamstring injury against these Marlins on May 16.
