Major League Baseball's Unbreakable Numbers

Immediately following his appearance on ESPN's First Take, in the midst of a 30-game hitting streak, Ryan Zimmerman proceeded to go 0-for-3 in the Washington Nationals' 6-3 win over the San Francisco Giants, thus ending his run at history.

Paul O'Neill Hated to Lose: A Look Back at the 1997 Playoffs

It occurred between World Championships, which might be the reason it is not mentioned when discussing the last Yankees' dynasty.

But it was a performance that defined what the Yankees used to be.

It ranks with the heroics of Mickey Mantle, Reggie Jackson, Bucky Dent and Chris Chambliss—except the Yankees lost.

Phil Wrigley's Innovations and Legacy

Neither Hal Steinbrenner nor Randy Levine has to worry about clearing a date on their busy calendars during the off season to receive an award that Phil Wrigley received in 1957.

The New York Chapter of the Baseball Writers' of America presented Mr. Wrigley with the coveted Bill Slocum Award for long and meritorious service to the game. Bill Slocum was a former baseball writer who made many contributions to baseball.

A Review of the Minnesota Twins' 1994 MLB Draft

Originally published by me at my blog, TwinsFix.com.

The 2009 June Draft is just around the corner and I'm sure quite a few of you weren't aware of it. Unless your name happens to be Buster Olney I'll bet you couldn't list the top ten prospects.

Over the next few weeks I will be reviewing the last 15 years' worth of Minnesota Twins' drafts. Up first: 1994.

A Tribute to the 1998 Chicago Cubs

Being only 20 years old, I was all of one in 1989 when the Cubs made the playoffs, so for me 1998 was my first taste of postseason baseball as a Cubs fan.

The 1998 season was quite a season for the North Siders, and it all culminated in a one game playoff with the San Francisco Giants.

As I watched Steve Trachsel pitch the game of his life and saw the Cubs punch their ticket to the playoffs, it was then that I knew I would be a Cubs fan for the rest of my life.

So here is a look back at what I'm sure will be fond memories to the first Cubs playoff team of my generation.

Neil Allen and Ernie Shore: Shutout but No Complete Game

The Yankees were playing the Athletics in Oakland on May 31, 1988 in a battle of division leaders. Rookie left-hander Al Leiter started for the Yankees, but he faced only one batter because his first delivery to Carney Lansford was lined right back from where it came,

The drive hit Leiter on his left forearm and landed a few feet away. Al picked up the baseball, made an errant throw towards first base, and Lansford wound up on second with no outs. Leiter could not continue.

Alex Rodriguez Joins Mickey Mantle

Alex Rodriguez hit a dramatic home run in his first plate appearance of 2009. Returning from hip surgery, Alex blasted Baltimore's Jeremy Guthrie's first pitch into the left field stands for a three-run home run.

The extraordinary feat brought back memories of Aug. 4, 1963.

Baseball Says Goodbye to Dom DiMaggio

Dominic DiMaggio, who spent time as a Boston Red Sox center fielder but was overshadowed by his older brother Joe, passed away Friday at his Massachusetts home.

He was surrounded by family and a replay of Thursday night’s Sox game was on in the background.

Turns Out, I Knew Cory Lidle...and I Didn't Even Know It

Sixteen years ago, I was living through a remarkable time in my life. I didn't have any gray hair yet, and my 30-foot jump shot still traveled 30 feet. Heck, back then, I could actually stoop to pick something up and then stand back up without help.

Ah, the good old days.

I had a camera store and photo studio, which I thoroughly enjoyed running, and had a string of some of the best part-time jobs you could find.
