Better Team of The Decade: Red Sox Or Yankees?

The Red Sox and Yankees rivalry is about to heat up. These two teams are probably the two best teams of the past 10 years, but which one has been better?

So lets get this going...

Overall regular season record: Over the past eight seasons, the Yankees' overall regular season record is 775-521. That includes three straight seasons of over 100 wins and seven seasons of over 90. This also includes six division championships.

Age Before Beauty: 41-Year-Old Makes World Series History

For years leading up to 1992 the Great White North, known as Toronto Blue Jays to the Locals, had been quietly building a team ready to compete for a World Series. There had been many successful seasons leading up to this one but the team always fell short. Something had been missing.

The big news that offseason was the signing of Jack Morris to a three year contract.  Morris had just come off a World Series title and MVP performance with his hometown team the Minnesota Twins.

History Unpublished: Chicago Cubs Lost to In-State Semi-Pro Team

Two weeks before the 1907 World Series, the Chicago Cubs decided to go on a barnstorming tour, in which they stopped in Quincy, Illinois. The semi-professional team there, the Quincy Buds were part of the Illinois-Iowa League and finished their season with a win percentage of .500.

The Beautiful Rhetoric of Gehrig's "Farewell" Speech

In my opinion, Lou Gehrig was one of baseball's greatest players. Let's not worry today about his wonderful stats, but what he told a huge crowd of Yankees fans, while staring death in the face:

This speech is featured on American Rhetoric as one of America's top 100 speeches.

10 of the Greatest Photos Taken At Yankee Stadium

(Sorry, Notre Dame fans, Baseball only)

With the Yankees opening a new stadium in a week, it only seems fitting that we count down the top photos taken at or about the House that Ruth built.

Yet, the question remains: How will my generation carry the great Yankees Stadium memories to our children?

Through pictures.

I have compiled a few pictures that really seem meaningful to Yankees Stadium.

Legends We Should Always Remember

I miss Bill Veeck...from Larry Doby, to Satchel Paige, to Max Patkin, the shorts, exploding scoreboards, adding the surnames to jerseys, to having Harry Caray sing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame", to "Disco Demolition Night"...MLB stole his ideas...but lost sight of the fun that was supposed to accompany it.

Thoughts on Character, Spitballers, Steroid Users, and the Baseball Hall of Fame

They are instructed that "voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team(s) on which the player played."

This has been the charge of the baseball writers who determine which players are worthy for inclusion in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

There are several players now in the Hall of Fame who make for an uneasy fit if we take the Hall of Fame prescription seriously.

A Look at 1961- Did Roger Maris Really Break Babe Ruth's Home Run Record?

As I was reading through a book last night, , I  managed to find myself in 1961, the year Roger Maris broke Babe Ruth’s single season home run record.

What I was looking for was some more baseball knowledge to then pass on to all the kids at school who don’t really care (Some might say that’s everyone), but I found a mystery that needs to be solved.

The New York Yankee's Tommy John; So Committed They Named a Surgery After Him

In my brief time as a writer on the Bleacher Report, I've made it my practice to write about my beloved Red Sox. They are the team that makes my heart palpitate. "Born and Bred Red Sox Red" is the unofficial mantra I've coined for myself.

Boston Red Sox's Curt Schilling Ends Legendary Career

There are certain iconic phrases and images whose mere mention will produce galvanized memories among most.

The line "I'll be back" makes us all think of Arnold Schwarzenegger in "The Terminator."  The phrase "Do you believe in miracles?" is forever screamed in Al Michael's excited register and in reference to the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team.

Unless you have lived in a cave since the late 1990s, the image of a bloody sock makes you think of Curt Schilling.

Today, Schilling announced his retirement.
